There have been plenty of threads and posts about cutting the bar to fit bigger coolers --- I read heaps when I was deciding to get stg 1 or stg 2 last year --- and for me, the decision came down to:-

How many kw do I want out of the car

&

will cutting the support panel out cause any grief now or later with insurance, roadworthy, resale etc.

I am a bit of a chicken sh*t so decided not to cut it and bought a stg 1 but as been said, you may not have to worry about that stuff in NZ.

Found a good pick in this thread http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/75474-pw-stg-2-install/?p=1119628 that shows the cut bar better.

I can't find the post atm but apparently the bar is plastic with some type of steal (metal) through it for strength and as has been said so many times in other threads........Ford wouldn't put it in the car if it wasn't needed.......but having said that, plenty have cut it out to fit bigger coolers without issue.

Thanks for yr answers guys... sorry about all the questions, im kinda new at this. I was going to get it supplied black for the stealth look. But just read they r powder coated.. is this true? I would of thought anodized. Seems a shame to go to the trouble of fitting a big cooler then insulating it with a layer of polyester. Thoughts?

the bar that is cut off is a composite material and is structural, things do not need to be made of metal to be structural, do you realise your windscreen is part of the roof strength?
