Just had the 3000K inspection done on the T and asked them to change oil and filter. When I picked it up I discovered they had put in a standard Valvoline 10W/30 oil. When I questioned why they didn't use the grade listed in the handbook they said it would make no difference. Is this OK or should I drop the oil out and put in recommended grade? Will the lighter oil cause any damage?TIA

I imagine it's a ford dealer that changed your oil, if so I find it extremely sub-standard that they aren't even using the recommend products. My dealer puts 15W-40 oil in my T, and I wouldn't except anything different!Just my 2 cents...

Al,couldn't agree with you more, pretty sure you need the thicker oil for cooling the turboI'd be telling them to get knotted and to do it properly this timeWhat did they charge you by the way?? Refer to page 34 of the customer assistance, warranty, and maintenance booklet. It clearly states that the Turbo MUST have the 15w-40 oilPolitely request they change it.... if they wont... (theirs not yours  )Not good enuf IMO
rex13bt Member 38 Member For: 20y 11m 30d Posted 03/02/04 10:56 AM Share Posted 03/02/04 10:56 AM You should not use a oil lower than a XXw/40. The engine oil can reach a much higher temperatures than in the NA versions of the I6. The higher the temperature, the thinner the oil which may result in more metal to metal contanct. They should give you back the $70.00 and resolve their stuff up for FREE IMO.
