Was trying to post a link to ford forums page but you have to be a member to see it.....

ATF will make the box quiet for a few kays but the rollover noise will return, there is no problem using it and the boxes are designed for it but noise and sometimes crap shifts are the downsides.....

Some oils contain sulfates that can affect the bronze components. Its not the sythetic oil ,its the type of oil used. Fully synthetic oil is the obvious choice given its increased resistance to shear.

I have penrite in the diff too, pro gear 80-140 does not need lsd additive.....

I had dex3 in my box for 40k, then transmax z for 25k and had no drama with it but as I said the formula changed and mal wood said not to use it anymore as they had some failures, I have had the penrite in the box for 5k now and its great and much quieter than the others and shifts are great.....

Exactly what penrite oil are you using? What is the best oil for as fast as possible up shifts. Not worried about roll over as it's already bad but manageable

I spoke to Mal yesterday, and he said transmax z is "ok, you can use it", but erred on the side of dexron III

Currently have PENRITE PRO GEAR 70w-75 in the box....shifts are smooth and fast, have had the car at WSID each time I have had different fluids in it, never missed a shift.....

Mal wood seems to change his mind ALOT, I originally put transmax z in about 2 years ago on his advice, then a ford forum member with an FG manual got told to not use it, I rang mal wood to clarify and they said they had seen some issues with a box that used it and no longer recommend it.......I asked about the formula changing and they suspected it had.....

Truth is my box copped the hardest time with transmax z including 3 trips to WSID and never had any issue, I only changed to penrite as the rollover noise was sh*thouse......

Repco have 25% off this weekend....

Mal Wood asked what box I run, I told him T56 in a B series t, he was all like "just chuck dexron in" I was all like "that information would have been much more useful before I blew $171 on 8 litres of transmax z"

Mainlube gear oil has a massive following over on ff.com, but *beep* me its expensive! Saw some of the quotes, think they topped $400 including freight?!?!?!

transmax is going in tomorrow when I do my shifter swap.
