Your not the only "mechanical noise" weirdo out there!

My XA hardtop had no sound deadner, carpet etc and had a straight cut cam gear drive , gilmer belt, Toploader gearbox, and the 9 inch rear had a Detroit locker with the lash set on the tight side.

Nolathane bushes all round.

Talk about mechanical symphony, I loved it

Oh it also had no radio or stereo

When its eventually returned too the road I'll have added a set of quad webers and I'm seriously thinking of getting a set of straight cut gears for the toploader and turning it into a dog box (no syncros)

Music is overated

Hey I love music dont get me wrong, I even have everything on the ground ready to go into the car for a decent stereo but I realised since getting the car going I havent once turned the stereo up past 8 lol. That XA sounds right up my alley too, how far away is it from being built?

Was thinking of this as a future upgrade for the box, if we lived in the states liberty does faceplating for $900. Bastards - love that pistol grip shifter too but black aluminum shifter in a QLD car, in summer... yeah nah.

Welp got the car up and going and took it for a 15 min test drive. At first it made no noise but a bit of heat into the diff and yep it whurrs away - love it! Nice quiet background noise on the highway so wont do my head in on long drives. Sounds a lot like this minus the unreal screaming small block.

Install went without a hitch and all of our calculations were spot on. Really happy with the pinion angle and was all pretty drama free really. Will post up some pics over the weekend, time for a cruise and enjoy the car for the weekend methinks.

Lol im another weirdo that loves whirring noises and mechanical symphonys, my missus would hate it but I could seriously deal with it in a daily. That video of the sequential tr6060 that's been posted various times really does it for me.

Your in Brisbane arent u luke? Would love to go for a burn. :-)

Yeah for sure man, should head out for a cruise somewhere or something. Just need to get a few things like the exhaust sorted out, im finishing up on the interior this week. Decided to skip the stereo as I dont listen to it anymore, and drop the gauges for something different.

Already bummed out about the power lol. Took measurements on the tail "dump" pipes which were for some reason press bent... still cant believe that. At the most narrow point they are a whopping 2" so im hoping this is why the car is laggier than I remembered when it was my mates car, and why the power is dropping off in the top end despite having the .7 front housing.

Either way that F6 engine needs to go in with a tank of e85 yesterday lol. Always have been a power whore but I was hoping I'd last longer with 300rwkw. Back in bike racing days whenever we saw the engine builder he'd ask me if theres anything that I wanted/bike needed. Answer was always more power.

Bit of an update. Car has been great, no real issues bar the blow off valve leaking and a few small things here or there. Thought I'd post pics of the solid mounted diff as I said I would.

Heres it pre welding with the biscuits in place, making sure it would actually fit with everything measuring up as it should. Front ones were centered and rear was slightly offset to correct the pinion angle.

Old man getting a sun tan. We're not fabricators but really happy how this turned out.

While we had the rear end out of the car and disassembled we did the bushes on the rear arms, completing the whole suspension front to rear. For a big heavy family car with little (read none) development suspension wise its really amazing how well it handles. Currently just has the bushes, bilsteins, king springs, whiteline front sway bar. Was always expecting the NVH to be extreme as ive read but on most roads if anything it feels smoother than before. Harsh bumps its definitely firm but theres SFA road noise coming through the car and if its something people stress over I'd doubt they'd have an aftermarket exhaust on the car.

Post-welding and gave the subframe a lick of paint. Wasnt expecting it to be so glossy though lol.

The diff had a lot of lash in it, I ran into the previous owner of the car after we bought it and was recently rebuilt through mal wood but for us it was an unknown entity. Got some measurements taking at the gearbox shop at slacks creek, and adjusted the lash by dialling in half a "notch". Still has a bit of lash but is much better. Seems like the diff has to come out again though as it has a heavy whine, not unlike me when im sick.

Welded, painted, and diff fitted up. Fitting it with the solid bushes in place was actually easier than before.

Front side shot. Welds arent the most beautiful but they'll do what they're asked to.

Started back on the exterior last week tidying up a few niggling issues. Biggest one was the yellow front headlights. Rubbed back then hit them with ultimate polish and a rotary buffer, turned out way better than I expected

Also had the car up on the hoist to check over the rear end, making sure its still as it should be. Noticed an oil leak up front, turned out its broken both engine mounts already lol. They're oil filled so its just squirting the oil underneath and through the engine bay. Looking into some tough mounts now.

Planning on the next part of the build which is swapping in the F6 engine. Will need a few parts before that happens, fuel system and intercooler plus will get oil pump gears and a few other parts before it goes in. The second wreck had a full process west kit on it - stage 3 intercooler/piping, air box, battery relocate, plenum and so on. Unfortunately the intercooler is a bit worse for wear! Was thinking of removing the bottom few rows, getting the core straightened and tanks modified but probably going to be more work than its worth. Heres a few pics of the cooler... The car was in bad shape!

As of now im looking at other options, probably something from the states as they're 1/4 the cost of stuff we can get here. Wont be direct fit but shouldnt take much and will probably end up modding the pipes on the end of the condenser to make a bit more room in the front. Open to suggestions!
