Hi guys, first time on the forum. I have a 2010 XR6 Turbo 50th Anniversary Ute - warranty expired - time to play.

I've spent a bit of time reading through the forum but can't seem to find the info I'm chasing.

I'm looking at doing some upgrades and I really want to get it right the first time around.

I'm not chasing eleventeenhundredmillion Kw's at the wheels (or flywheel) or anything like that.

Approx 300rwkw's would be a good thing I think.

Basically, I'd like to give it a bit more oomph, a better sound and ideally a little better economy on the highway as I live in Mildura - a loooong way from anywhere worth visiting :)

1. Being a turbo 6, it's my understanding that I'll never got it to sound "awesome".

I don't want to spend mega bucks on an exhaust upgrade. What's a good solution for a person chasing approx 300rwkw's?

Currently I'm looking at getting a high-flow cat installed along with replacing the centre muffler with a pair of 2.5" hotdogs. Apparently drone isn;t as big an issue in the utes???? Auto btw.

2. I've chucked a K&N panel filter in which has yielded the tiniest improvement in sound (barely noticeable at all), looking at just drilling the standard air box and perhaps ditching the induction muffler. Who sells cheap kits for this?

3. Once all this is done, it's off to a tuner for the flash tune/injectors. I'm doing multiple trips to Melbourne in the near future so I'm thinking this is where I'll need to source a guru. Any suggestions? Do I REALLY need to own a flash tuner? Seems a waste of money to me. Am I missing the point?

Any opinions on anything I've stated here would be greatly appreciated.

I've found this to be the best "primer" of where to start with the FG's so far (and will keep posting it until a better one is found) and give a decent starting idea of what you're looking at for the 300rwkw's

Heaps of good tuners around - both on and off the forum. Also some that are not so good so best to ask for confirmation that the one you end up choosing isn't one of the duds :P

If coming to Melbourne for a tune I can highly recommend Mick and Pitlane - have looked after me and my car since its first service and through a fair bit of additional work; are VERY active on this forum and am yet to find a bad report or unhappy customer of theirs - including ones from much further afield than yourself

They have a section in the Sponsors forum - have a read through there as well as the 300rwkw forum for some ideas of what people are doing that'll be close to what you're after.

Depending on where you're headed to in Melbourne there could also be someone more convenient, but the extra K's to visit Mick wouldn't be unrewarded.

Best off holding off on any other mods at home until you've spoken to some people and gotten and end plan in site - better to pay once for the right item than spend money now to replace it at a later date with the hardware that you actually need.

Really make a plan to get to your end goal.

I made the mistake with my cooler.

1. 4inch dump and cat. That's all. Because response

2. A good filter and a hole cut in the bottom. Either that or turbo side. Don't bother with a cai or intake delete. They don't add that much power.

3. Pit lane... just go there

And flash tuners are only useful for switching tunes. Say you want a 98 and a 95 and a e85 tune. They are also handy for diagnostics. But torque pro does this as well

Hope That helps

Personal opinion here obviously:

Pit Lane installed the Nizpro 4 inch exhaust to my car a few weeks back.

I asked them to get Simon (Nizpro) to do the 'valve' mod to it - the valve sits in 1 of the trumpets and only opens when 'x' psi gets sent to it.

Even though it's a full stainless system, when driving around town (normally) the exhaust has a very low note and is very quiet but stand on it and the valve opens which - again, my opinion - sounds awesome.

It will never sound like a Expensive Daewoo v8 (if that's your idea of awesome zorst sounds....gotta admit, I love the sound of some of them) but there are so many different ways you can go, I'm sure through meeting some of the members here, hearing their cars and asking what exhaust they have, you will find a system that will sound great to you.

Oh and by the way

Welcome to the forum

and am yet to find a bad report or unhappy customer of theirs - including ones from much further afield than yourself

Didn't you see my post in another thread mentioning how they didn't let me pay for dinner Rab?

hehe

"my opinion only"
