Hi guys,

My FG xr6 auto has developed a rather loud rattle at idle. It's either coming from the rear of the motor or the gearbox.

It doesn't do it when it's cold and only 70% of the time when warm.

The car runs fine otherwise and getting good fuel economy.

Here's a video of the noise, any help is appreciated

I had mine come loose at the drags a little while ago, foot on brake and a tiny bit of throttle stopped it. This is how you need to drive it as well if unavoidable, keep it under load but be gentle with it, to stop it moving around and chewing out the holes.

Exhaust hitting something is also a possibility? Depending how good you were able to hear in the engine bay anyway.

Here's mine

I got back under and checked it.

Does it regardless of if it's PRND

I can't hear it from outside the car not loud enough to find it anyway. Inside it sounds like it's coming from behind the a/c controls / tissue holder.

Defiantly nowhere near as loud as steves

I've removed the heat shield over the extractors no change :(

Unless the exhaust is hitting or something's come loose.

ICC pulls out easily! Give it a go and have a look if you can find anything loose in there. Have a gander in the how to install after market head unit etc. threads to see how to remove it.

I forgot about the crank damage possibility, glad I avoided that!

I have the exact same noise in my BF turbo. I mostly hear it when it's warm, and can't hear it under the car, only inside. Does sound like it's coming from under the centre console. If you find out what it is let me know, I haven't heard it for a while now though.

Pulled out the glovebox and icc definatly not there.

checked the heatshields around the exhaust etc all were fine and had more then a fingerspace between the exhaust.

got under the passenger side and the noise was louder. Could possibly be the bottom of the intake, what get me is it's in sync with the idle of the engine or a coil/plug

I know my PS pump is on its way so it's whining but the idle is down to 500rpm and it's rougher then usual.

Its prolly the exhaust knocking on something due the rubbers being worn, if its loud in the cab that is.

Loose Flex plate is so friggin loud you can hear it on idle from a mile away
