044's are just a sh*t pump that will embaras u with that typical erratic noise you posted. I never got to the bottom of why (it will do it on a brand new pump) but one theory that I suspect is that maybe the screw on thing on the front of a new pump that we all throw in the bin may help keep it quiet but I never tried using it with it on. Keeping fuel cool helps but that surge tank setup definately heats the fuel up heaps and makes the problem heaps worse. It sounds like you have not run this set up on a hot summers day as it will go 10x troppo.

Nooooo. Don't say that. It's our coldest dry season right now and when the wet comes it will be frickin hot! (In Darwin)

mine starts whining when fuel reaches around

30 degrees ambient. I also have it rubbered with the noise reduction voodoo kit.

Little fella says " bees are angry again"

Been on the dyno many times no fuel issues thus far

30 degrees ambiant equates to approx 55 degrees fuel temp on surge tank systems after 20 mins driving..

Fuel starts to boil at approx 35-40 degrees c. Its the cavitation that adds to the fuel pump noise.

Especially worse with winter fuels as they have a lower boiling point.

Is your hose from the pump to the tank solid or soft. If its solid change to a soft hose and it will dramatically reduce the noise.

I'll check it out. It's rubber not braided but I'll check how flexible it is.

ok an update on this. The noise just continued at a ridiculous level with the whine changing pitch from time to time, then yesterday when I pulled up suddenly the noise stopped. the car then started coughing. I turned it off and turned the key, there was a slight humm but no normal loud noise, then car started badly like running on 3 cylinders. then it was out of fuel and wouldn't start again.

Took it to my mechanic who replaced the pump. Went from 35psi to 75. Car is runing fine again. the best bit is that even though they just replaced the 044, I can't hear it at all now. it just sounds like a normal car again.

They did say that they only just tightened the clamp on the pump just enough to hold it, so it could be twisted in the bracket but still firm.

So bottomline is that it was making the racket for two reasons, 1. bracket might have been done up too tight on the pump and the main reason was that it was on its way out.

happy days, I was just about to upgrade the pump to the new PW one because the noise was driving me nuts. Just saved a bunch of money. well not really, the tow truck and labour wasn't cheap.

I had the same kind of surge on my car... Drove through a booze bus one night and the cops and his roadside buddies got all judgy wudgy on me about the noise, I told them my power steering pump was on the fritz and after a check over the car they let me be.

Put it in the wheely bin and got myself one of the new PW one with 460s.. Nice and quiet.
