Guest Señor Deanodriver Guests Posted 05/02/04 04:00 PM Share Posted 05/02/04 04:00 PM (edited) Why would they go from manual only in the originals, to auto only in the new one,Well, I told you why ... but to repeat in simpler terms ... TO SAVE WEIGHT AND TO SAVE MONEY.Just my opinion - - - - - No matter how much cost cutting there is, a high powered sports version of a car, such as a GTHO, has to have a manual available. If it was auto only, it would damage the car's reputation (making it seem less of a sports car). This is the car that is going to be the 'image car' for the FPV range, the top of the line sports sedan. No matter how much 'pretend manual' technology an auto will have, you would still have to provide a traditional manual with a high powered sports car, even if it is just to please the purists. No way will FPV make the GTHO automatic only. Personally, if I was running the show, I'd make it only available in a manual, just like the original. An automatic will take the edge off the sports experience, make it seem less like a 'race car for the road', and more like a luxury family car with double the normal engine power. So the AMG Mercs are not a high powered sports version of a car?Don't see any of these in manual form.I agree with you that the GTHO should be available only as a manual BUT do FoMoCo? That is the $60,000 Q.Ford have to contend with a couple of probs regarding putting a manual behind a car with 375kw.Firstly, what gearbox can they use? They can't even get one that will handle 250kw and not behave like a truck box. Not a good thing in a top of the line "image car".Secondly, they have to meld a transfer case to the transmission. Using a manual means a separate one-model-specific housing which is going to be cost-ineffective and heavy. Not a good thing if you want to keep the car affordable, nor in a chassis that is already getting more than a fair share of bagging for it's weight. However, I hope you are right and I am wrong because I would hate to see an automatic GTHO. I thought the GTS 300 was only offered in an auto sometime last year, because they had trouble getting the auto to handle the kw's. You may be right though if your talking about older models. And besides you can't "order" a GTHO as the model does not exist in the ordering system.

RATT Member 230 Member For: 22y 3m 14d Location: Sydney Posted 08/02/04 11:26 PM Share Posted 08/02/04 11:26 PM Well, you can order a Falcon xr10 if you like but you will never get it.The salesman will not have that info, and when a dealer orders a car they use a model code. Now a model code for a GTHO does NOT exist and therefore a GTHO cannot be ordered. I believe it is coming out but no one knows specs, power , cost etc so it is premature saying that "we have ordered two HO's" for mid 2005.So I can assure you that no dealer would have one on order.. yet. I think we're getting confused with:1) An offical order placed by the dealer care of the customer to Ford with;2) An order placed by the customer with the dealer. The second option is more like a intention to buy agreement between the customer and dealer. I agree at this point the order can't be placed by the dealer to Ford. But the dealer has a confirmation, in the form of a deposit that once the GTHO is released the customer will buy it from them. Any dealer who declined to take a deposit off a customer for a GTHO even at this stage would be stupid becasue they are effectively losing a sale of a vehicle reported to retail at around $100K.
