If you are going to do some sort of blend of the two you will need a vary good relationship with your tuner, and I doubt many would do it. It is always best to flash the car to stock first then start with HP, you don't know what tables the SCT tuner has used to add timing fuel etc as there are plenty of modifyers etc. And with HP have a crap scanner still atm you can't log sufficiently to prove it. Don't let me deter you from Getting HP by all means but personally I think your either all in or all out, no middle ground...

Regarding the flash counter, an SCT based shop can't even be sure if you messed with it with HP based on number of flashes done, as I have 3 tunes on my XCAL3 and I could load up ten a day bouncing between the files.

I must say, I pay good money for a tune it's mine. If I can extract it so be it.... Then there's others who use this to make money from, that's where it goes south quick smart!

Grey area but common sense needs to be added.

I'm sure you all know by now that I am lacking in the common sense department so in my case, I'm glad that ratter locked mine.

My engine may live longer without me "thinking" I know what I'm doing and trying to change things but I can understand how people with the knowledge and skills in this area should be able too but who is gunna determine who that is

I can not lock SCT tunes, I do do a few things though to make sure some body trying to copy them, can not apply the same changes though to another tune and have them work properly.

This applies in my job (not a tooner).. We work with a lot of calculations that not every company has developed.. It's a wonderful thing called 'intellectual property'.. People pay me to use my formulas and my knowledge to solve their problem. In the process they may get a spreadsheet with my formula on it.. They do not own or are legally allowed to re-use that sheet.. They paid for a solution to their problem.. Not for the years of knowledge, experience, trial and error we have poured into refining how we got to that result..

So even though they may be able to unlock my spreadsheet using a piece of software they found on google.. Doesn't mean they should and it doesn't mean I'm liable in court if they fudge something up by editing it themselves and only understanding a fraction of what is going into the spreadsheet.

Oh and I can bet these people are paying a sh*tload more than you blokes pay for tunes.

If you wanna tweak your tune learn from Ralph,Toads,jet,45TXR etc.. Buy the software start from scratch.. Learn what you are doing.. Know what you are changing.. Experiment..
