You're from NZ Ben?

Maybe worth starting an NZ thread (if there isn't one already) asking other kiwi's for recommendations on workshops etc there's a few floating around the forum.

(not suggesting you don't post here, but some of the Aussies advice may not be on the mark given you have different supplies, costs and requirements to ours - you don't need to run a cat for starters? and stuff we can get a good deal on here may come at a premium over there?)

May even be worth a sticky thread (or even a sub forum?) for our NZ brethren to share their experiences?

edit: just the other day we had a bloke from NZ trying to get help with a tune - am sure his tuner was punching in figures way above his knowledge level, but we don't really have a way of suggesting decent places to go for work etc and who not to go to.

So I'd heard (when a forum member said they'd pulled out their cat and was queried - "not needed in NZ" was the reply)

Come to think of it - it may have been the same bloke from NZ the other week, so take it with a grain of salt til it's confirmed (not the OP - the one who was complaining his XR6T doesn't get off the line in the wet as well as a WRX or round the track as well as a GTR) :S

Looking into it a bit further - they may be required when getting whatever your version is of a RWC/certifications etc but they don't have the same penalties as we do for not running one - $10k plus fine over here - debateable whether or not a cop would/could cause you an issue over there (post 1998 vehicles I think)

I'm still yet to hear of a single person who has ever been fined $10,000 for not running a cat. Sounds like an urban legend if you ask me

True - have heard everything from a few hundred for a first offense, $2,000 per cylinder through to ~$25k for the installer/person who did it.

Never heard of anyone actually being pinged though.

Not sure if it's a RWC item either - or if it's in the realm of the EPA that would need to test etc - maybe a defect notice and need to book into EPA, by which time the CAT will be working properly?
