... as it is torque that is hard on the drive train not power. It is possible to increase the power output whilst keeping torque at sensible levels this avoids the need for a tougher gear box and higher clamp loading for the pressure plate.

But it is torque that gives you the push in the back. Are you building road cars or dyno queens?

If you read my comments I say its possible to increase the power whilst keeping torque to SENSIBLE levels, after all this thread is about the stock T5, not replacement 6 speed T56 transplants :censored:

Have you looked at some of these kits available to strengthen the T5? and have you had any experience with them? Are they worth while? Would using redline shockproof oil make any worth while diffrence to the life of the box?

Thanks

We have considered upgrading some of the stock components which is the approach we used to strenghten the WRX 5 speed trans (see the APS website for details) though to date the T5 has not been a problem so why fix it if its not broken.

Surely if the trans is as weak as some suggest we would have seen damage by now, I think that the gears will fatigue over time, we will have to wait and see on this topic as only more time and Kms will tell the story.

The redline shock proof oil works well and I say this from previous experience with the product, it is a worth while investment.:sick::sick:

the price for the G-force gearset are pretty high on that site...this site seems to be alot cheaper.....

seems this would be a VERY good option!!

I am certainly interested in any option available to either strengthen or replace the T5. At this stage I am not willing to risk forking out big dollars for a big power kit, then have to virtually double that ammount when the gearbox decides to $hit itself. Is this T56 really the only viable alternative at this stage? What's the full story this G-force gearset?

I believe Tremec have recently released a five speed capable of handling 600ftlb!

Yes, the TKO 600 has been released, but as it based on the TR3550 frame, it WILL NOT fit into a BA. Ben.

I came across the G-force gearset from an american mustang site, this guy was making 520rwhp through a T-5Z and torque to match, so I PMed him to see what the deal was, he said he was running a G-force gearset.

I might add in his posts, he mentioned very heavy launches with slick tires, so I would suggest they make the T-5 a very strong box.
