So.... I decided on the G6, I will look at gettin it past 300. But firstly I want to make sure it's 100% before I start. One thing that im not sure about is the tacho is quite unsteady. For eg. When im sitting on the motorway at 100 the tacho seems to move +/- around 100rpm. Im not sure if its an electrical thing, gearbox or motor. The car seems smooth as. It has a tiny miss at idle. Which doesnt make the tacho move. I thought the torque converter would lock and there be no way the motor could alter its speed. Any thoughts? Thx

Mine behaves the same thought not much of it, as was going to get costume tune with ID 1000's and other mods anyway.

After the tune, the tuner spoke to me about car pinging though top end, which he felt was strange as normally he would advance timing and he was pulling it back.

He thought I filled the car with 95 and not 98 octane. I was adamant the car has only run on Bp98.

So it been on my mind that the timing guide might have broken, causing it to be slightly out. (Known issue).

I had my car serviced by another tuner this week for first time after custom tune.

I was telling him of my concern.

They checked the manifold vacuum at idle which was also down and was told this could be an indicator of timing being out.

I have decide to have them open it up to see what going on, it's the only way to tell for sure.

I will turn it into a positive and get them to do valve spring at same time.

Keep us posted on this. Had a idle issue with my G6ET since day one of owning it pretty much the same a NZBen. Had ford do a reset on it and it made it a lot better. Its just a bobble every know and then, some days are worse then others it has been like this for 2 years. It has never thrown a code or engine light, or its never even nearly stalled. Getting the throttle body cleaned, inlet manifold re torqued new plugs in 2 weeks and if it doesn't fix it I might have to get it looked at. Is it just a case of taking off the rocker cover to investigate?

I'm not 100% sure on what's involved.

I have read before on this sight from well known tuners, that they have seen cars not throw up codes, but with guides broken and timing slightly out.

I had a good listen to the engine today. It sounds like someone has thrown a small handful of gravel in the front case. So I assume its the guide gone. Has anyone replaced one here? Whats involved? I might just order one anyrate and open her up n put one in. Even if its not broken, I dont expect itll be too expensive. I jst dont know if I can do it from the top or need to take the front cover off?

I herd it all depends as you might have several broken guides.

Also I believe or have been lead to believe they can get jammed in the teeth and damage the teeth!

I'm not a mechanic so would be good to hear from someone in the know.
