Most have only slight what I would consider to be normal wear marks. It's the few that look ordinary where testing will be interesting. Not trying to pre-empt, but I think Hi-Torque's initial thoughts that float had caused some chattering will be the most likely cause. It would be extremely unlikely oil has anything to do with it. If so, why wouldn't all lobes be near identical in wear? I'm sure the galleries would be engineered in a way to ensure consistent oil flow.Anyway, we'll know soon. Certainly about the hard casing which is of the most interest in this as far as I'm concerned.
Z2TT Member 714 Member For: 12y 6m 2d Posted 04/08/14 04:24 PM Share Posted 04/08/14 04:24 PM (edited) This makes me want to take my rocker covers off and look at my cams. my Engine ran Factory Ford oil for 4000km, then Synthetic Redline for 5000km, then Ford Oil for 5000km then Mineral oil for 2000km.I would imagine if some cam lobes have less wear than others, then the valve float could be a factor as certain valve springs are more prone to float than others in the same batch to a more severe degree, hence the wear difference? I'm wondering all the cars that have seen high wear, all are tuned / high power ? Or have there been cases of many factory driven daily FG Turbos with high cam wear?Could it possibly be caused by high heat on high power cars? Also regarding valve float issue I'm surprised that if valve float were so severe as to cause such shock that stresses the cam to cause that much wear, it is got to affect power somewhat and be seen on a Dyno to some degree? I think one of you guys who had wear mentioned that everything was fine on the Dyno. Edited 04/08/14 04:28 PM by Z2TT

It was only $40 so consider it my donation for a common interest Testing will prove it but word is, Ford are aware there was a manufacturing fault with early FG Cams concerning heat treatment. Lets see what the facts tell us once Arron does his thing.
