Replacement new cams pretty cheap actually - like $600 from memory. Rockers though - gold! I think some are overplaying this. As long as the hard casing hasn't been damaged then no biggie. Same if the rollers have a few marks on them. Mine were fine but the cams were average as we know.

I don't get it, if they wear so excessively doesn't that mean the valve is going to open less and less the more the camshaft lobe get's worn, I have seen engines with 200,000km with better looking camshafts than some of these pictures

None of the wear shown in photo's I've seen so far is 'excessive' though. What we've got is an issue concerning the hard casing.

I hope the results of my donor cams come back soon so we have some facts.

Here is some pics of hardening failure...

These are bad worn cams, I'm not saying ours don't get like this but there is a big difference between a few lines on it that look bad and an actual cam lobe failure

have just removed the cams and rollers ,the rollers must be the culprit that destroys the cam . the cam does not look to bad but the rollers definitely look looked like they are scored. have also just removed the head and have found score marks in most of the bores (straight up and down ) also the carbon looks like some of it started to flake of ? going to try again to post pictures tonight after I have removed the sump

Yeah I just want to be sure if it's something that needs action taken we can try to do something now, rather than find out 13 years down the track when it begins causing everybody issues then nobody will really care as the car will be old.
