Hey, sorry to hijack this thread. I found 1 missing on my BA whilst attempting to fit a new wastegate actuator, apparently it's quite common. Anyone have an idea on the size of the stud? It's the lower left one. Also, I'm having trouble getting the two lower H frame bolts undone. They're so bloody tight, Using a ring or a socket doesn't seem to make a difference, they both feel like they're rounding the heads. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh and that bottom right stud is a *beep* of a spot.

WD-40 (or other loosener) and/or a heat gun for the H-frame bolts to make them easier to grab onto and a little looser in their threads. Make sure to use a 6 tooth socket, not a 12 tooth one as it grips tighter, be deliberate and slow with your movements to make sure it doesn't slip onto a bad angle.

The studs are M10x1.25 on one side and M10x1.5 on the other. The 1.5 end goes into the manifold and the 1.25 allows for a finer thread and more torque.

Do as Jet said to get the bottom-right stud out. If you can't get a good purchase on it, then take the whole manifold and turbo off in one piece and separate the turbo and manifold when out of the car.

Cheers for that. I just bought a set of Kincrome combination ring spanners thinking they would be adequate. I wish I'd learnt about Metrinch sooner.

I had metrinch before but was not that happy with them ,it sometimes did not grip the nut at all .but a standard ring spanner would . have not got them no more (got stolen out of my shed that's what happens when people know where you hide the key ,and then not return the stuff they borrowed

That's the first bit of negative feedback I've heard regarding Metrinch. I ended up getting some Kincrome bolt extractors which work well however I can't get on to the left hand H frame bolt. The one sitting in the engine mount. There's just not enough room. Any ideas on what I can use to get the bugger out?

so once the socket is onto the bolt you can't get a rathet head or an extension onto it?

From memory I got that one out with a step-down ring spanner (not sure what it's called??? ) like this -> dopp.jpeg
