Ive been away too in Bali for two weeks. I have come back with a sceptical look at Australias road safety campaign after what I witnessed over there. There are a small number of cyclists and it appears that a lot of people are radar operators as I saw two radar heads (forward/back) displayed on stationary six cylinder Commodores (No V8's down in the land of Square Bob Brown Pants)I saw absolutely no evidence of any mobile speed detection and the hoons around Launceston and Hobart are absolutely out of control day or night.I know there is only a small number of Police (about 1050) for the State and they are very poorly paid. A lot of them are seconded to crap duty like Court Security, Neighbourhood Watch meetings, Kum By Ya singalongs and the like to keep the very vocal minority happy. I have great empathy for our Tasmania brothers (and male and female Police are referred to as Policemen - not officers, men and women, persons etc)The only thing in their favour is that the road condition and construction is very very good, speed restriction zones are sensibly marked (50kmh only applies in purely residential and strict CBD) heavy vehicles are restricted from entering the CBD and the ever changing whether conditions give people some experience on low light and slippery roads. As far as the management of the Tas Police (and that includes every other State and Territory as well) that has little regard for traffic enforcement there is only one thing I can say...More people die from traffic collisions than they do from bouncing cheques!! Trully sux, as in recent weeks I have seen quite a few cars being the victim of smash and grabs (My dad's Vitara was one, a few last week his Mazda work truck got broken into) and the odd car with smashed window parked infront of their house with broken glass on the ground. Oh well. Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/8832-im-back/page/3/#findComment-88484 Share on other sites

Stopping is optional at red lights. If you dont like your lane drive in the oncoming one, they get out of the way or someone makes space to let you in. If not go up the gutter. As for the local boys....they set up on a street corner and if they catch you doing something wrong, they want a 50,000 rupiah note and the problem goes away. Mongrels took my bottle of OP rum at customs. Integrity is not a pivital thing in Bali. But to my amazement, no accidents. There judgement is impecable leaving on the smallest margins (cm sometimes). However 80 was the fastest we went. Oh yes a family of four can fit on a nifty fifty without helmets and travel 30cm away from your taxi. I learnt a good saying over there "no money no honey, no problem" Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/8832-im-back/page/3/#findComment-88491 Share on other sites
