Hi guys I realise this topic has probably been done to death but just a couple of basic (hopefully) questions.

First question: is it worthwhile putting bf mk2 valve springs into ba mk1 barra240? (I.e. I don't want to spend $260 on heavy duty springs if I can get bf ones for good price)

2nd question: if buying used bf mk2 springs is there an easy way to tell they are in fact out of bf mk2?

Car is thousands of dollars, rims are thousands of dollars, exhausts are thousands of dollars, Brembos are thousands of dollars, gearbox rebuilds are thousands of dollars, intercooler kits are a thousand dollars...a good set of valve springs is $300, and only roughly half of what it costs to get them installed by a shop regardless of if they are cheapies or made from infinitely strong and light unobtainium. Why skimp out, think about it. It's one of the best value parts going around!

thanks I was just trying to determine if there is a massive jump in quality/performance between bf and AM or if bf ones will do the job to solve my current problem I.e. ba springs turn to spaghetti after 5k rpm :( if it means saving $250 I will skimp it

I know where you are coming from but these cars are expensive to maintain so prepare yourself!

PS I have a BFII and still needed new springs to be put in...they all wear out over time, including aftermarket.

Also have them look at timing chain while it's apart. Mine had skipped a tooth and I was none the wiser, could have been like it for years! Was found at 200,000km when I got the new valve srings put in. Doubled the cost of the job I think, but can't really ignore it!

my bf typhoon springs are fine in mine for 360rwkw.. I dont bounce off the limiter though- theres no need to with these cars as they make all the power down low anyway...

thanks for the advice lads. yeh I mean ive had my ba since 2010 and only noticed the rough idle after a spirited drive a handful of times. she's getting a bit long in the tooth now so right foot doesnt hammer the firewall as much as it used to anyway! I think ill just keep to the mantra if its not broken dont fix it

If you're doing it yourself and really want to save money go BFII springs. Most of the costs is in the labour and would hate to spend the labour and get BF ones in just for you to do future mods down the track and have to redo them again
