Even on aftermarket pumps that are the common failures ?

If ethanol is effecting pumps run time would it not be safe to "assume" a blend will have effects or is the dilution so great it counteracts it "fully" ?

I have left this one to our engineer that can explain accurately as follows.....

The materials used in design for petrol cars were never intended to be used with ethanol. Ethanol has many adverse effects on certain materials some more than others, like most chemicals.

However some of these effects can be minimized by dilution. Based on research conducted by many manufacturers on the use with petrol containing 10% ethanol they identified whether certain materials/components would remain safe for use with this fuel.

Some materials are attacked aggressively by ethanol and will never be safe whether it’s 5% or 100%. Whereas others have a mild affect, that can be reduced to next to nothing by dilution.

It will never counteract it “fully” as long as there remains some blend of ethanol. But the effects on the components were deemed sufficiently low that the vehicle remained safe for user

Most cars post 1986 are suitable for use with ethanol content up to 10%..

We both however agree that it does open up a can of worms and only over a long period of time can this be answered 100% accuarately.

Many of the "after market" pumps used are originally used by OEM on many of ther models, therefore at this stage we assume them to be compatable at 10% Ethanol.

My 2009 G6E made 423.7rwks on 98 using the 6235 with all the usual mods using twin 460's. XFT tuned- Perth

Good power seduce, twin 460's is overkill for 98, u going to tune on E85?

No,I'm never going to use E85 and I told Simon that,I trust that they are the pros so I usually go with what they say and he used those. I would like them to be a bit quieter though.Pro Auto said they are illegal....I don't know if that's right.

Yeah, probably could have gone with a single 460, but look at it this way, you will never have to upgrade your fuel system again and if you did decide to try E85 your fuel system is well up to the task.

'
