G'day ,

My mate has a Typhoon turbo 6 with 28,000 klms on it. He just had the diff bushes and a leaky hydraulic throw-out bearing replaced under warrantee . Now the clutch pedal release position is right at the top of the pedal travel. Its a twin plate clutch. The dealer reckons the clutch is worn out ????? Obviously trying to avoid a big job at their cost. Have you any suggestions on why the pedal release position is so high ?

BA bf FG?

Must be BA bf if got twin plate... From memory should be low point pick up.

If FG it is a high pedal pick up..

But also in saying that clutch is a usable item so warranty might not cover it.

On replaceing the CSC did they remove the spacer and not put it back? I think this will change pedal position for bite but not 100%, hopefully someone else will chime in.

If it is the case then the spacer may also be wrong size with the replacement part, there is a measurement something like 14-17mm which is the diff between block to pressure plate fingers and bellhousing to release bearing. (something like that).

I've looked at the manual and it doesn't show any spacer...does it go between the throwout and the gearbox face ? I'm guessing the dealer has removed the leaky throwout along with the spacer and fitted the new one without the spacer.

Does anyone have a picture of this installation with the spacer ?

Yes the spacer would be between the CSC (throwout bearing) and gearbox face. This obviously adjusts the preload the CSC has on the plates and as far as I'm aware could change the takeup point on the peddle.

It's a very large washer for a better word with two bolt holes in it to allow the CSC to mount as normally.

That is how they are. Mine lasted 180,000 kms and was like that the whole time, you just get use to it.

If you slips the clutch to get boost on take off, it will die in no time, that's the only way to wear them out quickly. Mine slipped in 6th and took a year to slip in 3rd before replacing it. (only at full boost below 3000rpm. Bullet proof clutch if treated well.)
