Ba Xr6 Turbo Motor Ticking

Hi All,

Recently my 2003 Ba Xr6 Turbo 4spd auto was running low on oil, and my brother took out the car while I was on holidays unfortunately, and after a while of arguing he finally admitted he was thrashing it.

The car has been tuned to 285rwkw with some basic mods such as valve springs, cooler, and a strengthened box.

The end result was me coming home to a motor that was badly ticking, after taking it to a local mechanic of mine, he said that the ticking was coming from the bottom of the motor and is pretty certain the bottom end has shat itself.

Now I just would like some advice on the various options and rough price tags on getting this repaired, whether it will involve buying a bare motor, or what can be done as I'm not too sure of my options.

Any input/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

P

If your not planning on ever going over 400rwkw,go out and buy an FG F6 short motor from Ford. A lot better bottomend than the BA one and comes complete. Just gotta get a gasket set and swap your head, manifolds, sump, timing cover etc etc form old engine to new. Other option is to pull the engine out, strip it all down and strengthen it with better rods and pistons. By the time you pay for rods, pistons, bearings, machining etc,you will be looking at more then what an FG F6 short will cost you,but will handle more power.

why not use the valve springs out of your motor?

Where did you get the BA motor?

Mate I know you've already got the new motor but since your going to the trouble of doing engine swaps its a great opportunity to throw a bfII or fg motor in. The FG motor requires a bit more work but worth it. I'd be a little dubious about a 10 year old 2nd hander.
