Best to fit one, if for some reason the surface isn't true it will leak, at least fitting a gasket removes this possibly. I used a $30 ebay kit so your should suffice.

I had one fitted 6 months ago and it recently developed a hole in it

It was a cheap one from eBay that was a composite material

I am getting it replaced on Thursday and the turbo specialist doing the work explained that running a gasket is best but to fit a crushable metal gasket so it stays together

I just removed a permaseal mls one last weekend as it had shrunk to half its thinckness over 12 months and made my car run rich as sh*t. was also using atomics bolt kit and even they went loose from the peice of crap shrinking. back to no gasket for me for now.

I find gaskets cause issues, especially with them compressing on the corners and warping stuff and blowing out the gasket where it is not compressed.

Best thing is to have a good machinist machine the turbine housing and the manifold baby bottom smooth if the surfaces have degraded and not true.

I have added hi temp silicone between the surfaces and it does not really do much, but I have heard there is a product/sealant you can use that does not burn off between the matting surfaces but don't know what it is called.
