2009 Xr6, Known Turbo Problems?

hey guys, recently joined this forum after purchasing a 2009 xr6 turbo.

when I bought the car I opted for the AHG premium extended warranty ( roughly 2k I believe) just incase the turbo was to go, now just wondering if it was even worth getting it or if the turbo's on these beasts are known to actually go or have any issues?

re-thinking it now as through the warranty I am unable to do any mods as far as I know or get it serviced through anyone but ahg or it will void my warranty but when I signed up for it they've said I do have the option to cancel it for the money back at anytime, any thoughts guys?

Not sure if posting in the right area, apologies if not.

Got the ahg premium warranty when I purchased my new car, just wondering if it was really worth the 2200 as I only really got it out of fear of a turbo blowing but I believe the woman said I could cancel it at any time...

Anybody wlse have the warranty and needed to use it??

Not speaking from my own experience here and not sure if it's even the same company.. But one bloke I work with purchased a second hand car with 80,000kms on the clock.. He paid for premium warranty when financing the car through the dealership that would kick in once his car reached 100,000kms and new car warranty no longer applied.

His cost about $2700 but the reason for paying so much was in case anything major let go (Auto transmission, motor) in an SS that he has no history for. (And we all know how sedately people drive Expensive Daewoo SS's)

Now it gets fun.. Car ticks over 108,000kms. He is driving back to home from working about 500km away (He kicked it in guts and shot past me to overtake and then take a different way home).. Every fecking light comes on the dash.. He opts to call out a tow company from home and pay for their 300km round trip (Very friggin lucky his car died in one of the only spots to get phone signal on that road) just so he could get home. He had ABS fault, Traction Fault, Coil pack faults etc.. SO the first mechanic found nothing wrong.. Cleared the errors.. Car worked for about 50km.. Second mechanic found nothing wrong.. Same process.. Third mechanic found out it was a faulty ECU because he swapped some coil packs around and it was the same error code (not changing with the 'faulty' coil pack being put on a different cylinder). New ECU $1500 + Labor bill.

So now comes the fun.. Armed with his receipt he sent it to his warranty company (As was the agreement - you send the receipt to them and they reimburse you after the car is fixed). They immediately shot back and asked for his service logbook.. He sent in photocopies of that.. Firstly they rejected the claim as the previous owner had one service done 3000km late.. Then they backed that up with him having serviced the car 776km past the 105k service.. When their policy stipulates all servicing must be completed within 750km of the nominated mileage or within 15 days of the nominated date.. 26km's out of the agreement and they kicked it back even though it was for a part that never gets serviced!

He cancelled his policy but since it was a 3 year warranty he still lost more than a years worth of the money that he paid towards it..
