Venom XR> Why? What have you experienced that we should know about?

I'm asking because I'm contemplating the slotted Gold series for my T3.

I have just had to replace the fronts rotors on the T3 at 68,000km. The pads were not quite ratsh!t but getting close. The rotors however were worn below the groove so obviously below min spec. Had them measured and sure enough they were 1mm and 1.5 mm under min thickness so had to put on new ones. Of course new pads had to go in as well so I thought an enquiry to Ford for a warranty claim on the rotors was in order. After all a rotor should outlive the pads in my opinion.

After a call to Gregorys, (they see more premium brake setups than anyone else within cooee of me), I have now been educated on premium brakes. The info from these guys was that the premiums last usually 40,000km and they've seen some go to 50,000 but never over 60,000. AND ROTORS WEAR QUICKER THAN THE PADS!!! So no chance of a warranty claim.

So now I'm considering myself lucky to have got the 68,000km out of mine. The rears are still hanging in there for at least a while yet.

However at almost $1200 for the front pads and rotors I see this as rather expensive motoring. I'm accustomed to getting around 100,000 km from my front pads and at least three sets of pads to one set of rotors. This has been on my many previous models of Falcons, Fairlanes and LTDs.

I priced the DBA slotted (not Gold) at just over $300 each rotor, front or rear. There was about $10 more for the rears I think.

Any info would be appreciated ...

I enquired about cross drilled rotors (same as the Carrera Cup Porsche's) when I was buying my AP rotors, and the brake dude said that the cross drilled rotors develop hairline cracks froom the holes in the Porsche's.

And after he said that, I havent seen any V8 Supercar rotors that are cross drilled? Or WRC cars for that matter? Could be wrong.

So I am using slotted only.

Yes, I think that it pretty well documented that the cross drilled are to be avoided for that reason ... so it that the only difference between the DBA slotted and DBA Gold Series?

I think slotted would do you fine Jeff, you hardly use the brakes anyway.

DBA Longlife Slotted with a pad of your choice.

That was how the salesman talked me out of getting the premium brakes in my T.

You should have ignored him YCL, I don't even know what the setup will be, but I've insisted on them in my pending series 2. Stock ones are silly and dangerous :bomb::bomb:
