Just bought a FG F6 2011 6spd auto

The car has low kms so I doubt there's anything wrong with the car, just that the auto seems to hang onto the gears before up changing in the auto mode like at 60 the trans is in 4th on a flat road and won't go into 5th, and yet if I push it across to man mode I can select 5th and lowering the revs.

6th gear won't engage until around 90 and again in man mode can select it alot earlier, I would of thought being in the auto mode would pick up the next gear early, and in the porformance mode hang onto the gears.

I disconnected the battery to reset thing's but no change,

Is the ZF calibrated that way and operating normal, or does it have to learn to my driving style.

Same tyres all round?

Have been some cases where, if the car sees the wheels turning at different rates or the steering is on an angle (either sensors out or tyre sizes differing) the auto believes you're in a corner or turn and will hold gear.

Maybe do a tyre rotation first - if that doesn't change anything have the sensors checked/reset?

Get on the highway, in D. If it's not shifting to 6th and you think it should (can do it manually a bit past 70km/h), put on cruise control and see what happens?

The times I leave mine in auto I use S (performance mode), when cruising on highway if I then engage cruise to drops it back to adaptive mode (D) and goes up a gear usually.

Amusingly if you tap the throttle you can see it switch back to Performance mode and go back to Adaptive when you stop pressing the pedal, with accompanying gear changes. This is a BFII.

Depends also how the previous person drove it. The shift pot has a chip in it that learns how you drive. If your one to mash the loud button it changes a little harder & faster. Drive it slow & it responds accordingly. They do pick up habits & can need to be reset so I heard

My BF F6 was extremely lazy when I first purchased it. The previous owner had it since new as was an older gent and it appears he drove it quite sedately. It took a solid month of everyday driving and working the box through the gears to get it to wake up.

I was almost at the point of giving up on the car before it came good!

I tried to post this last night but the forum was doing it's backup thing and not responding...

Maybe start mashing the pedal everywhere so your driving matches the way the box is thinking! :) Problem solvered.

Does pulling the battery overnight cause it to reset and relearn or does it require a TCM reset?
