Awesome mate, ego and beige is a great combo. How many k's and how much? And seriously man just do the zf service and as banjaro replace heat exchanger or fit an external cooler. And dont be deterred by all this talk about the zf they are a brilliant box ford just let them down with a cheap sh*t heat exchanger. The service is a relatively small investment compared to a new box. In saying that if your gonna be chasing 400±(rwkw!!!) its gonna need some loving anyway

Hi Cyamte,

I bought a G6ET a little while ago, and I was not so fussed on the gearbox being serviced, rather the dreaded "ZF Milkshake". The factory gearbox cooler can fail, allowing coolant into the gearbox, which is the end of the gearbox.

One of the first things I did when I got the car was fit an aftermarket gearbox cooler, so no coolant will ever get into the gearbox.

I also bought a 20L drum of gulf western syntrans oil, and did a flush of all the gearbox oil.

We also have an naturally aspirated BA, which has about 210,000ks on the original geabox. I flushed a fair amount of the fluid from it too at about 200,000ks and it is still going fine. While I dont really buy the "sealed for life" thing - replacing old fluid has to be a good thing - they can last pretty well. I know its not a ZF, but the point is more that gearboxes can last remarkably well.

I got the G6ET at 78000ks. The car has done 5000ks since I got it and everything has been fine.

They are a great combination.

Potter around like grandpa and they are luxurious and comfortable, put your foot down and they respond nicely.

Good luck. I dont think you will be disappointed.

^^^ wat he said, sorry probably should have mentioned the "milkshake" is what the worry is. Take the cap of the coolant bottle(before you drive ;-)) and check the fluid, should be fairly obvious if the trans and coolant have mixed. Doubt a dealer will sell you a car with a milkshaked box as it will be there problem anyway. The 3month warranty is your friend you may get more than that, mine is 08 so I didnt get any balance of the new car warranty. Be brutal with your offer if you can. Mine had 27k on it with 32k crossed out on the windscreen. Was still there like a week after I had a look it at and I just went in and and said ill give you 24k right now its all I have(had 25) he said 24250, I said Haha done

I suggest this for the milkshake prevention. PWR heat exchanger kit! Not cheap but absolutely worth it for peace of mind. Also far cheaper than a new gearbox.

You will use less fuel as well compared to the V8...if you manage to keep your foot off the fun pedal a bit anyway :)

Good luck finding the right one!

Exactly what Steve has said. IF you can keep the foot off the fun pedal, the economy will be good.

Unfortunately for me, I have been having WAY TOO MUCH FUN since December and my economy has been worse than ever before, well that is what fuel log is telling me on my android phone.

;)

The pwr heat exchanger looks cute haha may have to look into one of those, I got a mate whos 2Ic at bursons, ill get my goodies thru there. the SS ute gets anywhere between 10.1 (on trip back from QLD loaded with gear) to 17.5 (loosing my sh*t on the monash freeway and skating the eastlink/monash on ramp too relieve tension) im sure the G6et will be better, more fun and a better drive, from what ive heard/felt/seen they are far superior, cant wait to tune it and be able to keep that stealth look and not freak everytime mr Highway patrol goes past, well.... that all depends on if I put the CYAMTE plates on the G6e or sell them like I was intending to do

I was gonna ask if your name was was a personalised plate. I like it alot. Mine averages 15.3 with pretty much no highway driving, regular short trips and a heavy right which are like the worst possible circumstances for economy so im not complaining. Sits at about 8l at 100. Highway economy is pretty amazing in these things
