hi all, looking at building an engine and im kinda old school into v8's and stuff.. ive read alot on here about built engines and see most guys going the atomic route with parts, some nizpro and so on.. just wondering if anyone has used SCAT H beam rods in these engines as I havent come across any posts.. scat is well known and ive used them in my v8 builds with great success.. also are the factory pistons forged? all the stories on here about clearances and rattly forged motors at startup.. is a hyperuetectic piston sustainable? about the only old school brand name ive heard being used is crow valve springs..! does nobody use CRANE or ISKY.. WHATS THE BEST AFTERMARKET CAM CHAIN AND GUIDES?

alot of questions I know but any answers for this old schooler would be appreciated..

cheers

Not sure if SCAT do rods or pistons for the Barras'

Your best bet would be atomic I or H beam rods depending on your power requirement. Spool imports also do a good rebuild kit. Im not sure but belive the factory pistons are forgerd, although people change them when building as they usually intend on putting serious amounts of force on them (20psi +) CRANE and ISKY arent really used either. Usually atomic, crow or nizpro for valve springs. Stock chain and guides dont really need to be replaced.

If building a BIG power engine, talk to TBRE engines or Atomic, they have been designing performance applications for years. Things to upgrade would be:

* obviously rods/pistons

* valve springs

* oil pump and gears

* thrust bearing

* Mains girdle

* Harmonic balancer

Sorry not thrust bearing mains bearing, they have a 180 degree cap and you can upgrade to 360 degree

I run the Scat H beam and J E piston combo, the J E have the same skirt size as oem pistons, as for "rattling" sounds sort of .But it is more of a "sewing machine"sound that is heard, due to ring clearances made so you can run the high boost and allow for the forgie to swell slightly. fortunetly you dont hear these sounds as much in a forged 355 stroker. Dont look past using ford guides and chains,nothing wrong with them. Seen alloy chain guides, but I'd rather have nylon wearing off(if any)in my new motor as opposed to metal. At the end of the day you have to think about what you want out of the car, you can build these motors reasonably priced by any motor engine builder/machinist with experience, they are only a modern straight six,

Nitto rods with JE pistons is another combo out there.

Anyone feel free to chime in with feedback and rough pricing on these items as ive kinda been eyeing em off for a built motor one day :-)
