HEY DOC,

I have now seen the intercooler you mentioned in your post, what a terrible design.

:bomb:

Well intercoolers are obviously more than just a price buy item. I'm pleased I don't have to go through all of this expensive and frustrating mis-information anymore. Dynod the GT today with 1300klm on the clock, nothing but one of GT-Ps cold air mods, and made 312kW at the engine.

I've got a series 2 Turbo on order. When it arrives Oct-Nov it will be coming to Melbourne for a complete same same stage 2 kit.

Until then I'm sticking with the V8. Had to buy the better half a little 2 litre Focus Zetec to keep her happy, a suprising little car full of features and damn good brakes and handling. She took the GT up to 180 last weekend, and is happy that she is probably one of an extreme female minority that has had the chance to do that, although I saw the needle of the T go close to 200 once while she was driving. She was too busy watching the road to look at the speedo so I just held my breath until she slowed down. Intercooler, what intercooler?, I don't gotta worry about such things any more :smilielol::bomb:

Hi Peter,

Just to clear things up here, as you have read above I got into trouble with the PWR cooler, if I thought  I could have purchased one from you being a site sponsor I would have in a heart beat.

The only reason I didn't ask is your mind set on not seperating your kits into seperate components for sale.

I fully understand your reasons for this and respect the amount of effort and R&D you have put into the XR6T.  How ever there will always be people out there like me who like to (for better or worse) play with the cars without having a kit that everyone else has.

There would be a market there for you with the intercooler in that sutuation.  As  I am running xede piggy back set up with 280 rwkw at the moment I could use your cooler as I have the ability to tune the xede to match it.  As it stands my tuners turned to Nizpro for their cooler in the end and I thank them for the quick response in getting me a cooler today.  If it had have been available from you I would have told them to deal with you.  Just some feedback for you and keep up the good work. :smilielol:

Sorry to hear of your problems with the pwr intercooler though I am not surprised after viewing the design, I guess this is the drama you experience when chosing the bits and piece's approach.

I appreciate your thoughts to support APS as a site sponsor, and if it was practical I would in a heart beat supply you with a APS intercooler system. So I can hear you asking what's the problem, well hear is the answer.

The moment you modify an engine it becomes illegal unless you can prove that the engine emissions meet the Australian standards which in this case is ADR 79/00.

If the owner of the car is defected by POLICE, EPA, or VIC ROADS and you cant prove continued compliance to ADR 79/00 (which costs many thousands of dollars) you will be fined and made to return the car to stock condition.

At APS we have invested much capitol to ensure that PHASE II AND phase

III systems meet the ADR 79/00 emission standards in order to protect APS customers from being force to remove the performance enhancements by state authorities.

As you can now appreciate APS does not want the liability of suppling parts for cars which clearly dont comply to state and federal emmision LAWS.

When the owner gets busted by the law it normally turns ugly between the owner, the parts supplier, and the tuner, nothing like a three way court BATTLE to waste thousands of DOLLARS and lots of valueable time and effort.

At APS we would rather put our efforts into making the system(not seperate parts as this is impossible to prove to the emmision standard) street legal and protecting our valued customers investment rather than fighting with the owner and the state authorities down the path after being busted by the POLICE,EPA etc. etc.

We understand and respect the owners choice to modify his car with various brands of components, though there are often many technical problems with this approach (as you have found), and then there is the legality issues which is a significant problem in both Sydney and Melbourne.

Many other tuners IGNORE the legality issue, we value our customers and dont want them to exeperience this grief. If these LAWS did not exist I would be selling stand alone products by the truck load.

We are actually trying to be fair and ethical by our customers though it may not always appear this way.

Thanks for the reply Peter, I thought that your reasons would be along those lines. Once again an honest and forthright answer. Keep up the good work and get into those 10's!

Stay tuned, in a few weeks I should have the results from my intercooler fitment, and I swear it will be impressive :)

Hi Chris,

If its a massive bar/plate intercooler core with smooth flowing cast alloy end tanks and has a very low pressure drop (across the entire intercooler system) you will run into massive problems as the turbo pressure will be out of control.

Be careful as bigger is not always better, we went as big as we dared (will support 650 horse power) any bigger and say goodbye to any control of the turbo pressure. Just trying to save you a lot of grief and wasted time.

We tested over 10 intercooler core sizes during our development phase and the final spec/size was approx mid range in terms of size and as big as one could package with out butchering the body panels. Please dont let them butcher your beautiful XR6T.

Thanks for the reply Peter.

I will just be waiting for the plug in APS Phase I and larger injector upgrage. Can't wait.

Cheers,

Greg.

No problem Greg, Testing on the pug in loom/unichip and larger injectors is well advanced and I can say now that mid March looks like the release date.

Doc, glad to hear your happy with the GT, now start by pulling off the injection and bolting on the single plane high rise manifold with the 750 double pumper HOLLEY, and get into the true GT spirit!

Regards

Peter

Peter,

The design consideration as yours was I would assume, was to have a kit that provided a minimum amount of pressure drop, while also removing as much heat as possible from the charge air stream, and also while not requiring cutting of body panels nor removal of standard Ford safety features..

Hyperflow are designing this intercooler for the mass market, so will follow a very similar design philosophy. That being said, I do realise the issues regarding 'excessive turbo pressure' which result from the wastegate being too small to flow the required amount of exhaust gas in a modified application.

The wastegate will be modified in order to avoid this excessive pressure buildup.

Good on you for pointing this important fact out though, as most people wouldnt neccessairly know this.

Thanks,

Kris.
