Mate as a qualified sparky and working specifically in the field of electronics I can tell you reco electronics is bullsh*t, few people have the skills to properly fault find them as most things just get replaced these days, and it's not really cost effective to do so. Perhaps they spotted some dry solder joins or something of the like and fixed that up, which could damage something else depending on the heat applied. Realistically do you think old mate knows exactly how the ford ecu works and sat down found the problem and replaced a chip or something(which requires special tools). Impossible no, but unlikely.

Could always grab an ecu from a wrecker and get ford to program it in. They are pretty pricey new.. But still beats throwing parts at it until you replace the ecu which is exactly what happened in the other thread. The fact you had it "reco'd" and you got all transmissions solenoids popping up in fault which is unlikely, points to the ecu I reckon.

Why was the computer reconditioned in the first place? Electronics these days are not as serviceable as they used to be, I can't see what exactly would be involved in a recondition (board reflow, new thermal paste?) Opening one up would probably do more damage than good.
