G'day,

I've blown up my 02 xr6 turbo and plan to rebuild it using a spool imports kit with Ross pistons. Would you recommend rebuilding the original turbo engine or buying a low kms NA engine and rebuilding that using the turbo head (or NA) and after market valves, springs, injectors etc in the NA engine. Also which crank should I use if my turbo crank isn't damaged. I'm hoping for 350rwkw on 12psi. Any input or suggestions are welcome!

Cheers.

If you blew it up odds are your block is shagged but the crank should be fine. If your head is ok I'd recommend buying a fresh block and giving the head a freshen up and some new valvesprings.

I bought my late model bf motor for 250bux. Same crank. Same cams I think too.. If not could steal the cams outta your dead motor and just fit slightly oversize stainless steel valves.

I just through my old bottom end in the bin

Cheers guys, looks like I'll go with a new block and the turbo crank if the original is fine. Also my mate had mentioned that repco are distributors for ACL and their bearings, pistons and rings are a bit cheaper than spool. Anyone have info on ACL?

Crank is same same for NA to turbo

I had the choice of 170,000 turbo crank and 150,000 NA crank.

Chose the crank that had done the least amount of work

Def. no expert but I believe atomic do a better oil pump setup as ours are known to go to poo,

do the spigot bearing while your at it,

maybe get your sump checked for being dead flat at joining surface to prevent oil leaks (machinist would probly do that),

arp head bolts,

you'll probly need to buy a full engine gasket kit which will have all your valve stem seals n that,

up to you if you wanna change valves while your at it to the slightly oversized stainless steel type which are avail. (you probly got your money's worth out of the last ones anyway),

ask the fella what porting will set you back on the head but be careful who you use

maybe look at doing a timing chain kit too

Atomic harmonic balancer (probly not worth worrying about)

Get your injectors cleaned

Was your original engine stock? If so, you will need bigger injectors, modded turbo/wastegate, bigger intercooler, an exhaust system.

I wouldnt worry about head porting, or modded cams. Good oil pump, and head bolts yes.
