Very sad, but hardly surprising. No more Australian manufactured cars.Toyota along with GM-H realised that they couldn't compete with Ford's future imports and they "pulled the plug".On Sunday I went to my local Audi dealer.I was looking at a new DSG 1.8T A3 AUDI with some options $53,000 on the road.I had a look at an A5 with 6,000 klms that had a 2.0T 4 cylinder .That was $83,000 on the road.It made me think about the people who are now buying F6s for $55,000 on the road.I know there is the Audi name and quality interior etc but the thought saddened me that Australia offered cars such as the XR6Twith 270kw and FPVs at over 300kw at "reasonable" prices and soon,it will be no more :(

Ford have already stated their biggest selling cars at the moment are imports, that's why they are pulling the pin on jobs a little early.

Bugger all Falcons being sold.

And I hope Abbott doesnt give Toyota any money. They were, and are going regardless. Why bother.

I read in the newspaper a couple of days ago the head of Ford AU saying that they may even close before October 2016 as sales have continued to decline at a faster rate than they anticipated. It will be a changing of the guard for Australian economics and employment, the final conclusion to our manufacturing workforce and the final fulfilment of our move to a service based economy rather than a goods based economy.

I'm already starting to diversify my career & prospects for finding a way to make a living after I finish my current contract. Sad times for a lot of people that won't find it as easy as me to do that

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten blamed the government for the demise of the car industry.

"The Abbott government's only been in for five months, and in that time we've seen the death of the Australian car industry," Mr Shorten said.

Wow.. Yeah because big companies like Toyota/Holden/Ford make those decisions in 5 months..

Dear Bill Shorten,

I hope some government internet tracking thing picks this up.. You are a retard. These decisions have been in the background and waiting to happen for years.. Out of all 3 manufacturers they just wanted one of the other ones to go first..

Regards,

Someone who doesn't believe main stream media all the time.. (Potentially the 1%)

I think that line has unintended consequences for the fool though. Yes Billy that's right, they have only had five months to try and digest the stinking sh*t sandwich that was handed to them.

But we will overlook the fact that Mitsubishi & Ford announced their departure under Labor. That must have been Howard's fault.

PS: A somewhat callous observation on the whole 'sky will fall...30 thousand people losing their jobs' hype. Quick Wikifacts show a workforce of 2,082,216 in Victoria. So that's 1.44%. Not good, but not exactly the end of the world is it?
