Hi I was wondering if anyone had changed the harmomic balancer on their FG, my car is out of warranty and the balancer rubber has started coming out. 128000kms

I know it needs the designed tool to remove it but has anyone done it a different way ?

Cheers

Use the tools ( puller etc) and do it properly - it is an important part. If they are stuffed the rubber parts are badly cracked or start coming out. Sometimes you can see the pulley start to run out of line. I have not done on these cars yet but I assume the fans + radiator might have to come out. A good time then to change the coolant and do the drive belt as well.

Sorry should have worded it a little differently, has anyone used a standard puller to remove one ? The balancer has three legs with only a small area off each to grip. No holes to bolt a normal puller into

Using the tool makes everything easier.

if you plan on using the balancer again you have to pull it from the middle, either using the tool, or using backwards jaw puller in strange and difficult positions.

if your balancer is going in the bin you can use a jaw puller and pull it from anywhere, but around the top where its easier will also mean it will destroy your rubber seal more and make the balancer worse - hence why if you do it this way it goes in the bin straight after.
