I once read somewhere that moving the battery from the front of the car to a more central position is equal to moving an iron small block V8 back 2 inches in the chassis.

Weight removal at the extreme ends of a car has the most gains for chassis balance because of polar moment.

Just food for thought!

For the last 4 years I have given my simple stepped PWR cooler a flogging at the circuit on my FG.

Surprise surprise it has worked well enough for me with careful cool down procedures.

However, it has been damaged recently and I need to upgrade.

Bar and plate vs tube and fin?

I only have good things to say about Process West. Innovative designs and a quality product. If I was not concerned about weight and doing the occasional drags, this would be my choice in a heart beat.

However, it is heavier than a similar Plazmaman Tube and Fin Stage 3 Cooler. Weight is very important to me. My car is already fat enough. Flow to the radiator is crucial as my car has always had temp issues at the circuit too.

From my understanding, air will flow through a Tube and fin cooler more effectively than a bar and plate.

Engineering theory would suggest that a heavier (bar/plate) cooler will absorb heat for longer duration potentially making it less efficient on a 10 lap supersprint session with constant airflow.........unless I am tailgaiting/being held up by an Evo..... :)

The Plazmaman stage 2 or 3 (light weight, high flow through) seems the logical choice for my unique circuit requirements.

Any thoughts?

Funny, I'm in the same boat. Been looking around for an upgrade too. Although I was tossing up between a Plazmaman 1800hp or Process West Stage 3. I think for circuit racing where you have high volumes of air passing through the cooler, It all comes down to the fin density. The high thermal storage of a bar and plate cooler would have no advantage over a tube and fin due to the lack of time required to dissipate the stored heat. Although I haven't found any useful information to support my theory.

I prefer lightweight tube n fin, have played with all types of cooler cores for 20+ years. For some reason it seems a touchy subject lol. I have just imported a bar n plate core to compare with the euro tube n fin cores I am using. Will be posting some data on it soon. I can say though that it is around 3 times the weight of the euro tube n fin and flow area seems considerably less. I want to run a back to back test with identical tanks so flow and air speed is the same with a repeat loading cycle. I think I will see if I can get them tested at PWR's wind tunnel facility as well as back to back on car/dyno. Just some food for thought though, I picked up 45rwkw from changing from my pwr stepped to a bigger euro tube n fin. I also picked up 6mph down quarter. The new cooler although considerably larger weighed in considerably less. Just like when cooking heat is transferd faster through a lighter aluminum pan than a thicker, heavier one....

yeh mate I love it, I went plaz as I love tube and finn coolers, so light yet efficient...

have had bar and plate in the past and you need a damn big cooler to compete.. they are out there though :nono2:

Interested in this as well!!!!

Apparently Darren from MT said they done back to back test of all the major coolers (I assume Plaz 1000hp, PW Stage 3 and Nizpro Big Boy) ...and he said best was PW?

I noticed there's a few people who are adamant that Tube & Fin is the best .... but seems to be a highly argued topic like; which engine oil is the best to use...

I was considering the Plaz cause they have a special ATM...with the 1000hp being only couple hundred more than the PW Stage 1/2 (but then factor in a TB elbow and the price difference is like $100)....

But like a blind sheep....I guess I will go with what the tuner recommends and therefore stick to PW stage 2 :P
