Suitable for use as per the manufacturers specs vs manufacturer approved for the warrantable life of the component as Ratter mentioned may at times only come down to paying for the Manufacturers approval.

Who do you think makes LG6? (hint it's not ZF)

I doubt gearbox warranty would be an issue for most of the people in this thread.

Agree, Shell make the oil for ZF only, and that's why you cannot buy Shell ZF oil.

As for other oils in this thread meeting Shell's M1375.4 spec why are they of different viscosity?

LG6 has a Kinematic viscosity of 28 @ 40c and GW is 32 @ 40c. I find it hard to believe a difference of 4pts would cause a trans to slip in just 1 gear?

It's your trans, so it's your choice. IMHO once a trans has a modded cooling system and has been tuned any arguments about oil suitability go out the window as there are far to many variables that could affect the functionality of the transmission

You may be right Luke and I'm in no way a Trans guru but I have pm's from 3 different Autotech customers and 2 from other tuners that have had issues when using GW, I cannot speak for the guys tuned elsewhere but the Autotech guys would have a similar tune to mine, 1 has flushed his box with LG6 and it is now operating as per normal, another has just done the same and we will see if it resolves his issue and Josh will be doing his in the next week or so.

Time will tell but I will be sticking with the LG6 for now.

I have had my car tuned at autotech and have also had a strange noise when cold and also quite often at around 60kms an hour a very harmonic drone. Not sure if it is the trans but I think I am going to revert to lg6 as I don't want the transmission to going on its way.

Ask SteveR what his clutch plates looked like when removed from his 6 speed.

Its not so much the brand of oil used but the abuse the boxes get and what effect that has on the oil

Out of interest sake,do you know how many have external coolers? I assume all have trans tunes?

No need to ask me, I'll let Simon answer that one. Wish I'd asked them to get pics before they were in the bin!

This was post Racewars and 200,000km. First change was at 150,000 odd, to Transmax Z. That improved shifts a fair bit. Now 50,000 later it's built and still on Transmax Z and feels far more grippy when in gear.

Note for everyone...I think leaving it so long to get built was not a good idea as it's still intermittently clunking on shifts 1-2 and 3-4, depending on how fast I'm going and how much throttle. 3 to 4 is where it wouldn't change at all under WOT before being built. Simon joked the clutches were so worn out the pistons were almost falling out of the sleeves (or whatever the term is) so I think the box learned some really bad habits and seems to be stuck in them despite being a learning box. Simon said to bring it in when I get a chance and he'll check out the clunks.
