Yeh remove the turbo and do it on the bench but mark the correct rotation first so the 0.7 cover lines up bang on ;)

Don't do it then.

It's not worth doing it just for noise. You'll add spool time plus pay for a retune.

Lots of time and money for fark all. Just yell "fish" when you floor it if it is the spool noise you're after.

I remember reading something on the garrett website that changing the compressor cover doesnt significantly Affect much.

Compressor A/R - Compressor performance is comparatively insensitive to changes in A/R. Larger A/R housings are sometimes used to optimize performance of low boost applications, and smaller A/R are used for high boost applications. However, as this influence of A/R on compressor performance is minor, there are not A/R options available for compressor housings.

I found some results somewhere on the net ages ago and it was fark all difference but different none the less. Iirc it was 200rpm spool and almost no top end. I can't really remember the whole amount of testing done.

That garrett quote contradicts itself anyway as we know there are a couple of compressor a/r options with the gt35r as well as many different ported and non ported housing types that affect spool up.

The guy who put a gtx wheel into a .7 housing for me said that the wheel would be choked by the smaller housing.

Obviously all compressors can be pushed to the choke line with a big enough turbine but in saying that I haven't plotted what the various combinations will do on a Barra.

@JETURBO would you care to add to this? I'd just yell fish myself but then again I'm a slack arse these days.

I can tell you right now there's a significant difference in airflow on nearly any compressor cover on our 4.0 DOHC platform and Antisurge style covers are actually transforming an airflow differential vs a std cover so it kind of points out an obvious change in characteristics no ?

just sayn get it checked and see the difference it can play and share the information you gather :)
