Hi PPLs,

Was out in the long and empty back streets with a friend and a 'G-Tech' (I think)... well basically it was a digital 1/4 mile time / speed reader thingo!

I managed to run a 14.8 as my best time... I wreckon I could get quicker obviously with a bit more practice and a cooler day...

I kinda got the hang of stalling it up to around 2200rpm (letting the turbo spool) and then givin it the gas... I think where I'm not maximising speed is in the gear changing....

Anyone have any tips on how to have my AUTO when running 1/4 mile?... Should I have it in performance mode? Should I run it out to what RPMS before changing?

The two XR8s ran (Sedan) 14.4 and (ute) 14.6  so I'm thinking I just gotta get the changing gears down pat...

... just one step closer to mods :)

Come to Calder on Fri night and practice, practice, practice! You'll also get a more accurate time. I found it best if I manually change where I want to. PM me if you would like to come to Calder and we can meet on the way there. :buttrock:

for auto ... left foot on brake .... right foot on go pedal to about 2000 or so ... and raise the anchor

as far as gear changes go ... let the auto do it in PERF mode ....

(keep an eye on your revs and be prepared to shift manually to save her hitting the rev limiter)

during all this you hope your tranny lives through it ... they are tough ... very tough ... but not unbreakable :(

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the info and feedback... I'm by no means hell bent on setting a blazing time... situation allowed us to go have some fun for 30 mins... so we did. I'll definately try performance mode next time.. :buttrock:

I don't really want to let my tires down so low as this car is my work car and I need to keep it in good running order for a lot of H/W KMs... (to and from Geelong daily)

I'm keen to come on out to Calder and say G'Day to everyone although it's tough with distance and long work hours... I'll probably catch up with all the VIC PPLS at All Ford Day and or FPV Open day!

100% - wot RPMs do you generally change at when you are doing your runs? (just out of interest)

I won't be hammering the tranny very often (we might go do it one more time) so I wouldn't expect any problems...

Saving the biccies to get a Stage 1 kit atm so I'll get it Dyno'd then and be happy with whatever I get (unless it's in the negative! :D ). I'm extremely impressed with Peter's attention to these forums so it'll be an APS installation I'm sure...

I'm a fairly addictive person by nature so hopefully I can stop at the Stage 1 Kit... hehe (G/F will hunt me down!)

Cheers,

Miyagi

Calder isn't that far from Geelong, about an hour. 45mins to Bacchus where I am, and about 20 mins to Calder from here.

If I hit the change with the std auto at 5000rpm it changes just b4 limiter. All new this Friday, as I've had some work done to the Auto, so I'II be trying everything again.

Don't worry about the GF, what she don't know won't hurt her ;) We won't tell! :innocent:

Stall it up to the 2200 mark, run it in manual mode foot flat to the floor and change at 5500, this way you just miss the rev limiter. With the same device I got 13.33 quarter and 4.7 to 100kph out of my stage 1 aps on a :buttrock: .
