It's an acquired taste mate, plus you have to savour it, not pour it down ya throat like a bloody fire hose

This - bottle of something I'm mixing will last a night or 2

Bottle of decent scotch will last a week or more.

Not a fan of scotch whiskey. Tastes like coal dust.

All it really takes is the right scotch at the right time and your eyes will be opened :)

There's heaps of milder flavoured ones with none of the peaty coal taste.

Oh and make sure you're not drinking johnny walker red/100 pipers/black douglas or other sh*t

Definitely ^^

Also give the Irish a go (Jamesons, Tullamore Dew are the regular shop ones) - go quite nice with soda

The one I had was some flashy scotch at a whiskey bar. Cost $200 for a round of 8 apparently. Maybe if I grew a hipster beard and wore tight second hand pants it would taste ok.

I might give the Irish whiskey a run soon. Supposed to be the number one import to the states back in the day before all the sh*t went down in Ireland and they fell into recession.

Dont mind Jimmy but only Black and still need to try the signature label.

When at the club I never asked for Bourbon and Coke cheap water down sh*t.

I agree with Rab, the right scotch at the right time will change your mind. I'm not much a fan of peaty (smokey) whiskeys, so can highly recommended Glengoyne 12 or 15yr old scotches for a very smooth drop.

I think my favourite whiskey to date was a Midletons Very Rare Irish whiskey. Midletons is essentially Jamesons high end stuff and dear god it was smooth. I'd have a bottle in my collection in a heartbeat if it wasn't for the $250 a bottle price tag over here. Definitely one you'd only have a little of on very special occasions.

I actually tried a couple of bourbons I didn't hate the other night when I went out. Four Roses Small Batch was decent.

Lol - did a tasting session at the Single Malt club in Melbourne (great session)

One of the samples that got high marks was a bourbon (no one knew til towards the end) - was a really nice drop

Should have seen the faces on some of the toff's who marked it highly - was like someone had told them they'd spat in their drink :)

Reminds me, I did a tasting for a mates bucks a few months back and I really liked a whiskey called Old Pulteney 12yr. Had a salty after taste, which I actually liked, surprisingly.
