These things are very deceptive in terms of speed. The Wylkatchem airport runs do show a thing or two and the above logs are really worth thinking about. Remember, a BF at that event made 275KM/hr in a standing kilometre.

Once you get a bit over 300RWKW, and assuming a bit of traction, you can make zero to the XR6T factory speed limiter = 230 in around 1100 metres. Forgetting all the downloads you see on U-Tube with people doing high speed runs on public roads, the now very old stuff done by Air Power Systems on a 5 Speed BA gives you some facts. Ignoring the debates about dyno readings, that car was advertised as showing around 330 RWKW and APS claimed around 390 flywheel KW. It did 307 Km/hr (191 MPH) at Avalon airport in good weather conditions with a high speed diff in it. By all reports from the witnesses it was both a real handful at that speed which is not surprising - along with the colossal air roar it made as it went by at close to top speed.

Vevapower's estimate for a high two is right on the money IMO.

Some good numbers there. As I said it's a good figure to benchmark against. When I get back to Melbourne might edit the first post with peoples times hall of fame style.

Yeah I'd like to log it next time I'm at the track, when I look at my slip it takes me 6.501 secs to go from 0 - 114 mph (182kms per hour) so hard to say what my 60 - 100 mph is.

I'd say it would be in the high 2's!

That 6.501 secs to 114 mph is 0 - 201 meters or half track at the strip!

So I wonder how much more speed I could put on in anther 799 meters!

I'd go close to 280 - 290 ish.

The BF that ran at wylkatchem made 275 with a reported detune from 600RWKW. The aero on the BF falcon seems to be pretty good to about 260 or so - after that there is a bit of high speed wander. If you think about a basic aircraft, this where you are heading. The cars eventually go side to side and then pitch and yaw. The early stock bodied commodores ( VB - VK) used to start this sort of stuff around 190 - 195 and then get to be a real handful after that. The front end used to lift first and that is no fun at all....

In terms of speed it is a pretty basic cubic equation. Staying away from drag calculations (which can change if the car is moving around or the road surface is causing suspension movement ) and frontal area measurement, to double your speed it takes 8 times more power. In a limited event - 1 kilometre - you really have to get the 60 foot right as well.

Accolades to all who have a go at this - it really is a worthy test of the cars and driving skills to get the shift points, tyres and power delivery all aligned for that all out run.

I ran my standard untuned FG XR6 T Auto at WSID on 21/5/2014 and got the following 60 to 100 Mile per hour times.

Run1

MPH.......................Time...................Metres

60...........................0.........................0

70...........................1.12....................32.74

80...........................2.54....................80.34

90...........................4.01...................136.25

100.........................5.71...................208.66

Run 2

60..........................0.........................0

70..........................1.15....................33.45

80..........................2.58....................81.66

90..........................4.13...................140.34

100........................5.84...................212.98

Run 3

60..........................0........................0

70..........................1.15...................33.71

80..........................2.57...................81.27

90..........................4.06..................137.70

100........................5.78..................211.03

These times were measured with my GPS based Racelogic Performance Box and the dragstrip 1/4 mile timeslip for run 1 was 12.731 (second gear launch with no wheelspin).

The run 2 timeslip was 12.509 (car in Drive and no wheelspin).

The run 3 timeslip was 12.841 seconds (car in drive with some wheelspin).
