Just order direct from KTS. THey have a downloadable catalogue with all their wheels.

The turbine and shaft needs to be checked for runout. This is more critical than any balancing of the whole assembly. The turbine and compressor are balanced on their own so it should be balanced. The billet ally wheels are in balance heaps more than any cast wheel.

Its just when some butcher over tightens the nut then it causes issues. I use a proper torque wrench.

I'm not short of a dollar so its not really a cost issue.

I went to dummy fit the Kinugawa comp wheel today on my spare gt3540 core but the new billet wheel would not slide onto the shaft. It fits to the end of the thread but then wont slide on the smooth shaft (insert Thorpe)?

I gave it a few taps with a rubber mallet but didn't feel confident using my usual "gentle violence" to get it to slide on...

Should I use a heat gun on the comp wheel first to make it expand a little and maybe air in a can to cool the shaft as I don't want to put the whole core in the freezer or should I just use the gentle violence method?

I have a set of vernier callipers but not sure what tolerance they are as they weren't mega bucks.

Cheers,

Brett

I have heard of some people giving it a lil bake in the oven. Marinade is optional..I like mine with lots of garlic

Definately put it in the oven. My KTS wheel was A bit tight. I put it in the oven for 30-45 min at around 100 deg, maybe hotter. It really needs a good even heat. A heat gun is possible but the heat really needs to get into the core of the wheel to expand it.

I managed to push it on 80% and then did the rest with the nut. Prior to the heat would not go past the first step. The same wheel would go over a T04z turbine shaft cold but the GT35 shaft seems just slightly bigger

I did my wheel swap with the whole turbo in the car so I really only had one go. Other wise would have used the press. But still heat it as otherwise you gall the bore of the wheel

Cheers trana, I thought that might have been the case.

I use to bake my little remote control engines and freeze the ceramic bearings so they would just slip into place!

This was just going to be a trial fit to make sure there were no probs with clearance of the billet wheel and comp housing before permanent fitment onto the cars turbo so I may wait now as it will likely be extremely hard to get off once fitted!

Where can I buy a small torque wrench that will do 0-50nm as I only have a 2ft torque wrench that starts at about 40nm?

What does the comp wheel nut have to be torqued to also?

I got the small click warren and brown inch/lb for around $150. Ring them direct, they may have some seconds for a bit cheaper. But I would prefer the other style that measures with a gauge that you can do in reverse also.

I just read around the net for torque specs. I remember but don't have my notes to tell you 100% so best you read up on it. I did it both the angle method and with torque wrench and worked out spot on. When I say angle method I marked it out then did the torque wrench and the lines pretty much lined up.

I didn't balance mine and shes very quiet with the billet wheel. Sometimes I think the tuner who did my car upgraded the FG turbo to BA specs by just bolting on a stock BA wheel and cover without balancing cause it used to be a really noisy turbo on shut down. I don't think the cast wheels balance up well. It was meant to be a new turbo but the ally billet wheel without balancing fixed it all up.
