Guest Spinifex Guests Posted 04/01/09 02:33 AM Share Posted 04/01/09 02:33 AM Here`s a drive I went on 1-1-09.I like to drive. I drive a loader for a living, but I like to drive my car specifically, on twisting mountain roads and fast sweepers.I`ll actively seek these roads out and in my tenure I`ve found some pretty good ones.Okay so I set forth from Ipswich and headed towards and through Beaudesert. Now the Boonah - Beaudesert road isn`t bad for a bit of fang as I know it well, I drove along it every day for 12 months when I worked out that way.I went right at Beauy, towards Rathdowney but just short of there I turned off onto the Lions Road. This, is a WINDY piece of work for sure, once over the border gate ( leave a donation if you can ) it`s second and third gear - throttle - BRAKE!!! turn for turn. You could make the time to just turn off part the way along and check out the Border Loop, where Trains decend the mountain down onto the flat via this enormous loop of track. Gotta be arsey though mostly they go at night.Down onto the flat country the road is really nice mid speed sweepers but care really needs to be taken as unexpected turns after crests etc will have your date flaring from 2 dollar coin to man hole cover size with alarming regularity.Onto the end of the Lions Road ( the local Lions club built it apparently. hence the name ) through a locality called The Risk, turning left onto the Summerland Way and onto Kyogle, then Casino with some nice rural scenes, nice road but really just a quiet drive to refect on things. Turning right at Casino and onto the Bruxner Highway towards Tenterfield parts of this road climbing up and over the Great Divide were really exciting. My arms started to get a little tired from constant use on the corners. But not enough to dissuade me.Then through Tenterfield and if time permits there`s stuff to see here. A museum and what not. I like T`field, its a pretty lil spot. The BP I stopped and refilled with Ultimate had really good hotbox tucker.Heading out of Tenterfield one see`s stunning granite formations, I`ve got to get out there and explore this area on foot.Watching the speed like a hawk and onto Stanthorpe and Warwick, I veered off towards Toowoomba on the way home and then turned off at the Clifton - Pelton intersection to go home down through Hiefer Creek, one of my old racetracks from decades ago.I came out at Grantham, then followed my nose back home.In that area of NSW from say Kyogle down to Grafton and Amidale, you can encounter some really nice twisting roads. The route I took on this day is just one of many I`ve found.Leave early enough and you can be back mid arvo. It`s not for everyone, but I like it. The cutting closer to gratham is awesome. I'm thinkin I might take that route on the way home from the cruise on sunday once we depart Warwick otherwise I got a lot of back tracking to do. Guest Spinifex Guests Posted 04/01/09 03:44 AM Share Posted 04/01/09 03:44 AM (edited) I lived in Grantham for 10 years or so, in 1984 I worked for the Gatton Council. Old digger who was my foreman said the convicts dug that cutting, I reckon he means the one that's after it towards Ma Ma Creek. But yeah, its a freaky bit of gear. Actually the whole hilly area that you pass through enroute to Grantham is not hard to look at in a good season such as it is now.Actually those headed back to the Norf Coast could go through Heifer creek, through Gatton, stop at the Gatton College Macca`s then turn left and go along the Gatton-Esk round and onto Somerset.I just don`t like Cunninghams Gap or coming along the Cunningham Highway, personally. Dangerous and cop infested. Edited 04/01/09 03:49 AM by Spinifex

Would've taken ages. By the sounds of it you sure know you're way around
