These engines produce about 5-8 hp and are usually equiped with a centrifugal clutch making them very slow to get going especially penalising those of us weight challenged folk. Compare this with the slowest 2 stroke karts producing about 15-16hp for a National engine (called a 100J) capable of doing about 80-90kph or the Clubman engine that I used to race was good for about 18-20hp (100-120kph carrying 70-80kg) but you don't often find them as hire karts. It's a bit like driving a standard VT Late model camira compared to the XR6T. And I know which one I'd rather drive. As far as venues are concerned I think 'Parklands Spedkarts' still run 2 stroke engines (100J) @ Parklands showgrounds Southport. Correct me if I'm wrong but Archerfield also run 2 strokes (at least they did last time I was there).Bara I'd be up for checking out some of these potential venues with you if you like. Let me know what you think.
sykes Member 408 Member For: 21y 2m 27d Location: Brisbane (Parkinson) Posted 09/09/04 04:04 AM Share Posted 09/09/04 04:04 AM Yeh, cooltint is right!Any 4 stroke Kart is a bit of a slug to get going especially for the weight challenged.Archerfield still have 2 stroke Karts and there new track setup is quite good. So depending on travel issues I would definately sugest Archerfield over a lot of the others. I have raced at Willowbank, Kingston, Big Kart Track, and Archerfield and beleive that Archerfield would be the pick of those. Why don't we do a poll and get some ideas as to where people would like to go and we can just hit which ever one comes up trumps! Being a little on the large side myself I was still able to hold my own against the son and some of his mates who are all half my size. It helps when you keep them on the track lols. I would however recommend Archerfield as when we were at willowbank they were always telling us to slow down and not get too close to one another. Now wheres the fun in that.
