mickq Member 740 Member For: 21y 10m 17d Posted 24/01/04 10:51 AM Share Posted 24/01/04 10:51 AM (edited) Flat spots only means one thing dude......brake lock up And Vik351, I believe that Aus. tuned ABS will lock up momentarily so can cause flat spots. This is due to the number dirt roads we have....you can stop quicker with locked wheels on dirt. Nope, wrong. Flatspots can be caused by a couple of other things, including parking your vehicle in one spot for an extended period and the tyres being exposed to temps outside the range they can cope with. Also, someone stated ABS can cause it....it shouldnt Flatspots from lockups are caused by longish periods of the same bit of tyre being rubbed on the road, which should not happen with properly functioning ABS. ABS should release brakes just prior to lockup but as stated can actually lockup, but the fraction of a second shoudl not be enough at flatspot the tyre...except mayber if you are near full speed and braking as hard as you can on just the wrong kind of surface.Oh, and still nobody has beaten my 10,000km's for a set of rear tyres down to the tread wear indicator.....and without a single burnout! Come on guys! Edited 24/01/04 10:52 AM by mickq

Is it relevant or a contrived test to sell tyres and magazines.Tarfoid I've gotten in November a set of Falken Ze512's. I like them & think they're quieter than the Dunlops but not quite as good in the rain as I found the Dunlops to have awesome tractable wet weather qualities.Scotty
Guest Tarfoid Guests Posted 25/01/04 09:47 PM Share Posted 25/01/04 09:47 PM Thanks for the tip on the Falken Ze512. My brother has also had a great experience with these. He's a Late model camira guy currently in a BA who won't stop whinging, but I will take his tyre advice and love him all the same. :nugget: Tarfoid
Guest cul08r Guests Posted 26/01/04 10:16 PM Share Posted 26/01/04 10:16 PM I am running Falkens FK 451s in a 245/35/19. I like them so far, and am yet to really find their limit on hard cornering. I am sure my wife will let you know when I do...Andrew

Dealer replaced the front tyres after 20,000 kays due to supposed flatspots and this achieved nothing. In desperation I went to a Bob Jane outlet who took all of 20 seconds with my right front on the balancer to find the problem - Ford took the Blue Oval logo one step too far when they gave me an oval rim for my T. Has now been replaced no questions asked and what do you know.....
Guest Scootre Guests Posted 14/03/04 08:40 PM Share Posted 14/03/04 08:40 PM I'd beinterested to know what type of fuel economy is indicated on the dash for you guys to put the tyre wear into perspective.I just want to plan my next mortgage around the new set of 9000's. Antisocial Weird Member Member 1,347 Member For: 22y 1m 8d Location: ACT Posted 15/03/04 01:17 AM Share Posted 15/03/04 01:17 AM Last week I replaced my 17" SP9000's with Pirelli P Zero Nero's.Then I went on the snowy cruise.....briliant. They are soooo much quiter than the Dunlops. They seem to be just as grippy perhaps more so (hard to be sure when comparing new to shagged tyres) and as well as less road nosie on the highway they do not make as much 'scrubbing' sounds during hard cornering.I got 31,000 out of the Dunlops, I reckon I would have done well over 35,000 is I had rotated them more than once. Roundabout tyre (front pass side, I do live in Canberra after all) was worn on the outside and the rears were worn in the middle.Pressures were 40 front 38 rear, with a boot load of toools and test equipt all week. The only down side is I can hear all sorts of new mechanical noises now that I couldn't hear before. But the bass in the stereo sounds much deeper....all just by changing the tyres. They cost $330 ea, the best price I could get for the SP9000's was $480ea, I was also considering the Mitchellin Pilot Precedia for $285 ea.
