Hey guys,

Since I've had my car its felt a little off, and I plan to be taking it to Simon to have the car, and ZF retuned. It seems to really need it.

But I just quickly wanted to know, how hot is too hot for these gearboxes? When I was driving down from the country, getting in the high 100's (kms per hour), for hours at a time, I was getting to 180-200F at some stages, which I was getting cautious with, so I slowed down a lot and got it down to around 160-180F.

The other day I got stuck in the city, stop start, on a hot day, and my gearbox was at 220F and climbing.

When I arrived at my destination I tried to let it cool as much as possible before driving again, and it got to about 170F before I started driving again. Went up to around 200F while driving again until I got on the freeway which it actually cooled down to around 160F. It didn't seem to like the stop start driving. The car also has a Transmission cooler.

On my last ZF I never had gauges for the trans temp so never really saw how hot it actually got, so I just wanna know if this is normal? More often than not for general driving I'm at 130-160F

Just wanting to make sure its not going to explode haha. Cheers

Mine runs about 75C in normal traffic in summer peak hour goes to about 90C. At Queensland raceway it spiked at about 103 but dropped to 98 after a cool down lap. In winter in the highway it sits at 68. I have external cooler behind passengers fog light.
