Does any one know the name of the bolt washer thingy-ma-jigs what stop the manifolds bolts from coming loose? I remember something about nizpro selling them but they cost a fortune,

My uncle was a pilot and said they use something similar to these on planes shaped like a triangle and stop the bolt unwinding ?

Any help would be great because old mate who just bought a turbo ute has lost 2 bolts from the previous owner and the rest are finger tight.

Atomic Performance version is Anchorlox. As for on planes they use lock tab washers or lockwire which are slightly different to these.

Just use there:

http://www.nord-lock.com/products/wedge-locking/washers/introduction/

Cheap and effective. I get them from Coventrys Fasteners over here in WA , so any industrial fastener joint should carry them

with the manifold bolts on a ba xr6t would it be better to use studs not bolts? or is bolts better?

Either are fine, I have put studs in so that the thread holes in the block are less likely to get stuffed. Fraud when servicing it had done a good job of near Fkn some so just put studs in to save it.

yeah I have a couple threads in teh head that need repairing...ffs dont let ya dickead mate help ya haha.

easy fix with heli coil but need to find the time. I think ill put studs in it, can get em for like 10 bucks on ebay for 10 that are suited for exhausts. I have the sonic kit in the manifold to turbo and there tight as after 7000ks, before it was bolts...for sum reason....anyway they loosened up after about 500ks...

I have studs and nord lock washers, didn't stop it from loosening, my exhaust was causing the problem as the weight was to hard on the manifold, welded a bracket to the exhaust and bolted it to the gearbox. Seems to be better but it's a standard problem if you like to rev to the redline. Tighten every 4-6 weeks.

I don't think using studs for anything turbo works very well.

For the head/manifold I use allen key headed bolts with nordlocks. With the manifold to turbo I use special turbo locking nuts and lock tabs. Whenever I design my custom manifolds I usually make the turbo mounting plate so that it can have a bolt pass thru to bolt the turbo on with turbo lock nuts and never had a problem. I would never consider studs as I know how many headaches they caused me on my very first setup.
