G'day guys,

I have been told by ford that my car is spiking in boost.. Does anyone know what could cause this? Every time it spikes, it blows a cooler pipe off. I bought it from a dealer with a s**tty eBay inter cooler, and I suspect it hasn't had a tune... Ford has taken it off my hands and 'reset' the computer, but it still spikes. I'm wanting to start working towards 300rwkw, but I don't want it spiking when I'm pushing 300.... Any ideas would be fantastic!

Cheers guys,

Ethan

Could be the cooler like you mentioned if its not tuned. Better flow than stock may be why with that cooler.

No1 do your hose clamps up tighter. And boost control is done by actuator and wastegate so that's where I would be starting. Does it spike everytime or sometimes? Also how much spike are we talking ?

To be 100% sure, I'm not entirely sure, I have been sitting under 3000rpm wherever I drive for a while now, because it doesn't seem to happen under 3000... Seems to be when I hit 4000rpm, it spikes... Ford won't say why or how much boost is going through... Would it be the fact I may need a new actuator? Pardon if that's a stupid question, I'm a baby to the modding world.

Standard turbo won't hit full boost Eg 20psi untill about 3g so yes that's when your spike will happen. Check all hoses around the wastegate and boost solenoid for split and or missing hoses. And yes it's not uncommon for a wastegate diaphragm to fail in the actuator. Also I would highly recommend the install of a boost gauge. Even for now buy one and just run it thru the window to see what the boost is doing.
