Hi Guys, Next week we are going to test the APS PHASE III for top speed, we have made a few small mods to gearing etc.,etc what speed do you guys think the T will run. And by the way what top speed have run in the T.

It should be pretty easy to work out, yes?

I think there is a not too tricky calculation you can do, based on power and also gearing ratios. You can even take into account the coefficient of drag if you want as at the higher speeds this plays a huge role in determining how many 100's of HP you need to get the final 20 odd kmh.

I know there is a program on the net that will let you work all that out.

It also calculates lots of things like optimum shifting points in each gear and best takeoff revs. Its not too shabby, and used by quite a few drag racers in the US.

You enter a whole bunch of info...everything you can imagine.

If I can dig up a copy for you, will you do a favour for me?

What Id love is the info on a standard XR6T with 5 speed gearbox that is needed for the program.

Including things like:

- Gear ratios for each gear and the diff etc (may actually be on the Ford site or in the manual...will check)

- Most importantly, power and torque for a bunch of different revs from idle to redline. I havent been able to get this data on my past cars as Ive never dynoed them.

If you can help me gather the info on my stock manual car, then I can get the program working for me. Im sure much of that info you will either know, or have to find out if you choose to enter all the data into the program for one/some of your cars.

with the standard diff and 5speed box, I'd say around 270.

If it was modified purely for top speed (gearing, cams, etc), then 350+ could be possible.

Wasn't the Raptor ute (or sedan, I forgot) trying to break some speed record?

I doubt that the xr6t would crack 250KPH at the stock power level with the speed limiter removed. You now have me thinking that this would be a worthwhile exercise, all need now is a stock 5 speed xr6t. Any volunteers?

I read somewhere ( Wheels) that the cutof on the T is at 229km/h and that was at 4950rpm. Going by the rev limiter at 6000rpm, I would guess maybe a 245-250 in stock form with no speed limiter. For the Pahse III I will guess 275km/h.

....What in your view is the wink link in the box?

They are a good box, but under the application you are talking:

A)Heat loading, they run VERY hot at load in fifth. General failure.

B)Under extreme load in fifth, the separation force between the two gears is not supported and absorbed by a rear roller bearing like it is in a T56, TR3550 or Supra. The rear tapered cluster bearing acts as a ramp and converts this side load into end thrust, and this fries the front cluster bearing. Bang.

C)High speed whip in the mainshaft causes the contact patch on the driven fifth gear to wander, chipping and eventually failing the teeth.

D)Heat causes the tolerances to go out, and they rattle to death.

Trust me, when the speed limiter cuts in, the needle bounces flat out at 240 on the speedo. Rides a bit hairy though  :banghead:

That program is called Cartest and I posted it on the forum ages ago...specsd and times seemed reasonable enough...maybe worth a look?

PS-Grab the forums current one quick as the new version (different program, same programmer) is a pay for download..

PS-Im thinking 282....

Carn Peter the suspense is killing us!

I promise I will let you all know when we have completed testing, the speed limiter removal is more difficult than I first thought, though I am sure we will get around the problem one way or another.
