Hello all,

Following on from my first post in the 300 Club ... I'm hoping some of you can share your thoughts and experiences on the Michelin Pilot Super Sport ...

I'm running these on my worked G6E Turbo and I'm having trouble maintains traction from a standing start.

I've gone up from the standard 245's to 265's on the rear in the name of traction, but I'm lighting them up off the line.

They are down to around 10-15% and need to be replaced soon, but I'm hoping some of you can share your experiences with them and let me know if they do lose most of their stickiness before they completely wear out ... When they were new they were awesome with the car in stock form.

I'm still running the stock G6ET suspension and open diff, but would expect better from a tyre of this class.

I'm hoping it is just the fact they get slippery towards the end of their life and replacing them will make all the difference.

Can anyone advise me of their experiences with this tyre?

Thanks,

Coatesy.

What do you want out of your tyre? Wet weather, dry weather, dragging on private roads or long lasting wear?

Nitto Invos are a cheaper stickier option but, won't last as long. Nitto NT01s are a stickier semi slick.

GoodYear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2s are a great all rounder.

How much power does your car have and on which turbo?

You have a non LSD in your G6E so that might be part of the issue.

I run Michelin Pilot Super Sports 245 all round on my FG XR6T with about 400-430hp.

on the Stock Turbo, King Springs and factory struts. I didn't want to take shortcuts so I went

a brand like Michelin and chose the Top Street Model, PSS. I had my doubts after being fed

all this "No Street Tyre will grip 400hp" crap.

These Tyres are just amazing and the most worthwhile mod I have done on my car,

it completes the car and allows you to use all the cars power how you want it.

The car goes straight like a bullet and rarely loses traction.

I can put full throttle from the standing start and let it accelerate as fast as possible

as it blasts through the gears like a rocket.

Mine are nearly new so I can't speak about how well they grip when they get very worn,

but I remember when new they took about 100-200km to wear in when they began gripping

the best.

Michelin PSS are excellent street tyres.

See what happened to mine early last year.

Soft sidewalls.

Wouldn't get them again.

the stock dunlops are so bad that almost any performance tyre is going to provide huge benefits. Be cautious when reading rave reviews of anything. If you look at the guys who have high rwkw cars and have gone through loads of tyres, not many will recommend the michelins first.

My own experience - I bought the michelin based on some glowing reports. When I looked back, the guys recommending them to me had not tried anything else.

With 320rwkw I went from Goodyear A2's 245/35/19 to Michelin PSS 275/30/19 thinking I would get better traction under WOT. The Goodyears were better in the dry, and way better in the wet. From my experience the Goodyears are a much better all round performance tyre.

Thanks for all your input, guys ...

I think I'll go with 275's on the rear and get an LSD put in ... Hopefully that will solve most of the issue.

Thanks again for your help.

I just found this post today.

I've been running PSS on my stock G6ET for the last 18 months 40,000km, after trying the OEM dunlops (very noisy, so-so straight line grip, not confident in corners), the Yoko V551 (quiet, fair grip but a bit squirmy) and the Yoko V103 (worst ever - poor grip, dreadful tram-lining). My experience matches that of Coatesy.

When new they are mind-bendingly grippy. Standing starts under WOT no problem. But once I get them down to about half tread they lose grippiness substantially.

I started with a set of 4 PSS and rotated them regularly so they all had roughly the same wear, and after about 20,000k I started to find that they would break traction in first very easily. About this time I trashed one by banging it on a sharp curb, so I put two new PSS on the rear and kept the part-worn ones on the front (unusual I know). The straight-line traction was back with a vengeance ! I found that cornering was still very good with the worn PSS on the front so I decided not to rotate them, leaving the better set on the rear. Now after another 10,000k, with about 50% tread left on the rear end the loss of rear-end traction is back. The fronts still have maybe 15% left and still grip the corners fine, but it looks like I'll be putting another new pair on the rear soon and shuffling the old rears forward. Or considering something else.

Does anyone else have any updated experience on this ?

Steve.

Yes they are. Recently put on Khumo KU 39's and so far they are fantastic value for money. Monumental grip in all weather. Still early days though., they recon they don't wear well. We'll see.

After 3800km / 6.5mm tread depth on my Michelin Pilot Super Sports, I have noticed a decrease in grip, When new, I used to get 0 Wheelspin most of the time in 1st gear with 300rwkw on a FG XR6T ZF, 19" 245 Size Tyre, Stock Struts with King Low Springs

After 3800km and down to about 6.5mm, I cannot get 1st gear to grip anymore under high boost, tread depth is about 6 to 6.5mm and running at 40 PSI, I may try to switch fronts to rear to see if it helps.
