Ba Mk2 Boost Trouble

Hey ive owned a Ba mk2 xr6 for about a month now and has the typical overboost problem, the boost gauge(specometer) hits about 10 to 11 then drops back a bit to maybe 8 to 9. Did have a leaky boost gauge when I got it but I fixed the hose on the back of it. Don't really know if its been tuned or not Was wondering if the boost can be manually adjusted ??? The car runs fine in 1st, 2nd and third being able to wind out the gears to well over 5000 rpm but as soon as you bring it on boost in 4th, 5th or 6th it hits the overboost straight away and in extreme cases the car has to be turned off and on again after that the car will run fine again. Will be getting it on a dyno asap but its a bit hard as I work away and only back weekends mainly. Thought if I could manually adjust boost I could see if that was the problem and not something else. Thanks for your help. Aaron.

P.S. Car has 205000 klms, completely stock apart from cat back exhaust, motor runs extremely well at idle no noises or anything right through the rev range and pulls very well and is a 6 speed manual. Cheers.

Checked the hose coming off front of turbo?

Don't just look at it - take it off, it connects to the boost solenoid which you can also remove and do maintenance on. inspect hose for cracks/any way it could leak and maybe replace it.

This leaking/not being connected robs you of boost control. Disconnect it all together and you'll be driving along like I was one day with a REALLY loud spoolin turbo attracting all the wrong attention. I was even told by the stupid mechanic who left it disconnected that I must have flash tuned the car for it to go this hard!

I had similar issues. First induction hoses constantly blowing off, then crazy torque at low revs and then it started to overboost at higher revs.

The boost actuator was faulty.

You can buy the OEM version of the actuator, the exact same unit that Garrett sell to Ford, for about $150 retail. The repair is a simple bolt-off, bolt-on.

Ford does not sell the boost actuator, only the entire turbo assembly, which they want to sell for $7000.

ha thank god for ford I remember my parents had trouble with their BA back in the day ford didn't want anything to do with it and it was only like 6 months old. But any way thanks for that, all these solutions sound exactly like what mine is doing so hopefully next weekend ill get home and I can fix it. Cant wait to make some decent power out of it. Thanks mate

you can test the actuator pretty easily to an extent by pulling the hose off the solenoid and puting a "regulated" compressed air line into the hose and watching the movement. should move incremental with increased air presure and nice and smooth with no leaks. dont put unregulated airpresure in it as you can blow it. mine tops out around 20psi but I have a 12lb actuator - yours might be less.
