Dyno Tuning Without A 'flash Box'

Hey All,

I have been looking around to get my 03 BA XR6T car tuned.. It was tuned at a well known performance workshop before I bought it, but realized I didn't receive a 'flash tuner box' with it. I called the workshop and they told me that they rarely work with 'flash box's' and that they dyno tune it straight to the car.

So my question is, (sorry if this sounds very stupid) but is it possible to tune a xr6t without these 'sct flash tuners'?

Long story but most common tuning software requires the flash x3 device using the sct software that's why, but a more than capable tuner can gain same results off other software that will edit the ecu direct and save u the coin on the x3 device

Heaps of reasons. Box can tune zf gearbox, hold multiple tunes, can go any tuner, can read and clear fault codes.

Ecu tune has one tune only and can only be retuned by the tuner that it was taken to.

Personally I don't see why we aren't given the option to have a laptop that loads the tunes onto the car.

bring own laptop that's of reasonable spec to tuner, they install software on laptop and interface with car, and sell you the interface so you can load from some preset tunes.

I appreciate the convenience of a little black box and intend to have a xcal3 at some stage but it'd surely be nice if you didnt have to spend $500-700 on this device.

Incorrect Ecu tune can be tuned by any tuner with the device/software. A license fee will apply (aprox $100), in this regard SCT is less flexible than HPT.

EDIT:

A question I would like to pose to the wider audience, has ZF tuning provided a noticeable impact since it was introduced?

This is not a loaded question Im keen to hear people's thoughts. From the outside looking in it appears we have prolonged the life of the box (too a point) but lost some of the main benefits of the ZF? (ie drivabilty/shift smoothness etc etc)
