Since I have been running ~350RWKW I have had a bit of an issue with gear changes on hard acceleration in manual mode.

I first encountered it while having a go with an Audi RS5. I stayed with him through the narrow windy roads and chopped it down to overtake on the up hill double lanes. When I went to changed up a gear there was a bit of a thud but no change until I eased off the gas.

Then yesterday I was accelerating at WOT and it wouldn't change from third to fourth in manual mode. I tried to shift three times before selecting drive, where it went back to normal.

I'm not sure if there is some physical distortion in the selector area when it's loaded up that stops me from selecting a gear or if there's something wrong with the trans internally. There have been a couple of hard THUDS too which made the sphincter pucker.

I have only experienced this in manual mode so far but not sure if it does it in other modes because I would normally drive it a bit softer.

Any help/similar experiences appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

Mine is the same on 3 to 4. General consensus is worn trans unfortunately. It will not change under WOT so I have learned to ease off the throttle when shifting. Mine is stock trans tune and 3 years of around 320rwkw.

Also mine just revs right out to the limiter. It's horrible! Was still able to do multiple 800m drags though and one was against an S5. Not sure if it was an R, just saw a V8 badge... but he got chopped :)

was told by my tuner to ease off a bit on the zf changes above the 1-2 change as doing wot changes in 3rd and 4th is what kills the boxes usually

There were a few cars here in QLD striggling on the 3rd to 4th shift, even on fresh boxes. There is something in the tune that sorts it

Mine does the same sometimes Steve, happened at the drags the other night it would rev right out hit limiter for a bit then change... Wtf is that all about?

Manual changes worked perfectly though

Yeah I never give mine hell in auto mode. Only ever manual mode as it doesn't change fast enough once modded. I mean when it slips on the 3-4 change it just revs right out. I can feel if it's failing the change now and jump off throttle which avoids the limiter, but still better to ease up as I shift and have more control.

im experiencing similar in my 08 xr with 100000klms, bloody pisses me off, makes me look like a spaz and makes the car way slower. itll light 1,2 up with out a problem than click 3rd and it just slip heavy same with 4th and 5th , also its doing this weird vvv vvvv vvvvv vvvvv thing were it suddenly thinks its got huge cams in it and keeps trying to lurch forward when you come to a stop , it was doing it in all gears but I took it back to get it redone and they fixed 1,2 but its still really bad and since ive had it tuned 3 weeks ago its broken a turbomanifold bolt at the back of the motor so I cant take it back in until its fixed. strange thing is it does it all the time even when your not even making more power then when it was stock and it had no problems before, im hoping its a tune problem but still its worrying and annoying that ill have to take it back to them for the 3rd time now to try n get it right I feel like im winging but ive payed good money for it...
