Hi ba xr6t sedan

With the timing chins whats the life of them? or when is it best to chang it? also with the valve springs, if the cars tsock, and not running more boost then should the stock springs be ok for the life of the engin? its just clicked over 240 000k's and still running sweet besides a miss at idle with air con off which cannot work out....otherwise its fine.

like if I was to change chain and/or springs would it be noticable difference? or more of a preventative maintance thing?

timing chains have no service life as such, they last until they become noisy which in many cases can be the life of the car. Valve springs in a stock car again in most cases will last the life of the car but in performance applications can require frequent replacement depending on valve lift, rpm used and quality of the springs, some forms of motorsport the valve springs are checked between races and replaced very frequently

My chain got replaced when I brought it in to get valve springs before racing it on an airstrip. XFT found it had jumped a tooth while having the engine open. I had 19x,xxx km and it still drove fine under power but would occasionally idle very badly at the lights (hence getting springs replaced). Had been like that a long long time though, and still has a bit of a grumpy nature now and then but not as bad as before.

Don't rev them right up and jump off the go pedal too fast is what I've since learned, to reduce chances of a skipped tooth. Shame as I get such a nice flutter. Just have to let it build in higher gears now so the revs are lower and it can't get the air out very fast, heh.
